I found on my space that there will be a gas out on the 15th. The last time this happened, prices dropped $.30 overnight. Just trying to spread the word, I have to use 93 because of my programmer, and I &%#@$%*&% a lot as I watch the price while filling the tank.

It doesnt make a difference. Compared to the general population, not many people are on myspace. People still have to drive to work, and truckers have to fill up to get paid. Besides, if everyone fills up the day before, they make their money. If no one fills up on the 15th, that means the corps will get their money a few days afterwards. A 1 day strike wont do anything, they probobly wont notice. It would take a much longer strike, on a more massive platform than myspace users. The general population has to drive to work to make money to live on, which requires buying gas.

Sorry but that wont work.

Unless everyone doesnt use any gas on that day!!!! That would matter!!

But not using any is not realistic.

Just buying it on the 16th instead of the 15th wont matter.

Correct. It would take a week or more of the vast majority of America not buying gas to effect the oil companies, which isnt going to happen like I said because people drive to work, many have to. Even then, they can sell to China or India, other countries with growing demands for oil.

Everyone knows fuel prices blow, and even @ $2.00 a gallon they would still have rediculous profits. Greed...

This "Urban Legend" has been de-bunked all over the press. It didn't work before and it will never work unless we all stop "driving". As long as we all still drive the same amount, we will all still pay the same amount.

The idea is to get public, corporate and government attention focused on the outrageous gas prices. Of course it won't reduce consumption but that is not the idea, it's raising awareness that there is a huge problem with gas prices and in particular the ridiculous profits being made by the gas companies.

I won't be buying gas on the 15th.

I won't either. I agree that it is about the attention. The more people particapate, the more chances of gaining attention. Now if everyone not only refrained from buying gas in the 15th, and also only drive to work if needed and or car pool for the rest of the week it may start a trickle down effect. The problem is getting more people to do it. My-Space has those people covered now send the message to all your person contacts too. It works the same way.

That's where ethanol comes in...

At what point does profit become ridiculous? It's funny companies are allowed to lose all the money they want but when they make money, they can't make to much.

As has been said, this only works if you don't USE gas on the 15th. If you don't buy on the 15th you'll get it on the 16th, it's a wash to the oil companies. In fact if I were big oil, I'd raise the prices on the 16th because I know people are going to need it because they skipped out on the 15th.

There is a difference between making money in a free market and making money on a "can't live without" commodity. Gas is the single most important product in the U.S. economy. It is an absolute must for companies to survive.

The same way you need water to survive.

So lets look at it this way. Lets replace the company/person/people/country/whatever with a human body. Lets replace gas/fuel with water. The body needs water to survive, just like a trucking company needs fuel to survive. Still with me?

Lets say the government that controls that water decides to cut off supply lines and water treatment plants to lower the availability. Now instead of paying pennies for a gallon, you are up to $5 a gallon. The same exact amount of water is AVAILABLE to be treated, but through the politics of business, the goverment has figured out a way to line its pockets by lowering production.

The OIL COMPANIES control availability. The OIL COMPANIES control supply.

It is ther perfect strategy though.....there is definite demand...so decrease supply, cut down on production costs, and get rich by taking advantage of already being rich.

Very well said. I love my Country, I just don't trust the crooks running it. If gas is $1.50 A gallon or $5.00 a gallon it don't make them drill faster, refine quicker or put more into the ground. The American citizens need to TAKE back control of this Country and make all these dirty politicians accountable for the mess this Country is in. It don't matter if they're republican, democrat or independant. White, black, red green or a tainty lavender. They gain WE pay. At this rate, in 5-10 years the Government will either tell us no you can not register and operate your truck or they'll say you need to pay a "surplus' or "special tax" or some stupid sh!t just to be sure their great great great great great grand kids won't suffer financially at our expence. Okay who started this thread, I hope your happy, you just ruined my night lol

That isn't going to do a thing. The oil companies know that if demand drops for one day it won't mean squat because it will be right back where it was the very next day and the day after, and the day after. Everytime someone even thinks about saying something about a refinery having problems or something maybe happening somewhere else, the oil prices jump...that's the problem. OOPS, I think I made oil prices higher by typing this.

You want to see gas prices drop, call your Congressman (or woman).

Increase supply by drilling in ANWR, the second largest oil deposit in North America.

Reduce the cost of shipping by drilling offshore. Why is it the Cubans, Argentinians, Europeans and various other Countries can drill just off our coastlines in so-called International Waters that we can't?

Increase infrastructure by allowing the oil companies to build more refineries in America without over-regulation and over-taxation. Do you realize we now ship gasoline, not just oil to the United States? More gasoline supply means lower costs.

Finally, instead of some BS Carbon Offset program, why don't we go back to using one of the cleanest, most powerful sources of energy available, Nuclear. That way we can stop burning billions of tons of natural gas powering our electric grid and Al Gore will get off our collective a$$es about all the green house gases our trucks and SUV are generating.
