Quite a good read man.

RP seems to be the shining golden boy here, I still don't know how I feel about putting solids in my engine though.

M1 seemed to fair no better or worse than any other oil. surprising to say the least.

what does the majority say about RP....anyone use it for a long time??

I've never used it in my engine, only because its so hard to find. The Chairforce base thats kinda close by used to have it in their store, but dont carry it anymore. The only place that does is a Pep Boys which is 15 minutes of highway away. I dont know anyone who has run it for a long time, but I'd imagine it's fine. If it fouled up motors everyone would know. I heard they had issues with Cummins I think Im going to run some next time I change, maybe order it online.

I was suprised with the senthetic blends. They matched the Synthetics for half the price! Valvaline's Durablend did pretty good, I think Pennzoil's blend also did kinda decent. Im upset there's no Amsoil's on there.

From what I've read about Amsoil it leaves a barring scar about as long as the RP does. I believe it was .66 mm for Amsoil and .70 for RP. I don't know what the load on the barring was to produce the scar though.

Yeah apparently Cummings said it caused excessive valve train wear.

let me know the price you get for RP online...I pay 7 bucks a quart here. We'll compare results when we change. I have to do mine this week.

Amazon.com has it for 5.99 a quart, 6 quarts is $35.94, and shipping is $7.25 for a total of 43.19. I guess it would even out if I had to drive all the way to Pep Boys to pick it up, and Im pretty sure its expensive there.

Every link I go to for Amsoil takes me to Amsoils main website which sells it for $7.25. Dont we have an Amsoil vendor on here? He could probobly get us a deal!

I have to check at the local parts store here...I get a 30% discount for being military

I know its 7 bucks for RP...I tried it in my cavy, but being that it had like 140hp it didn't make a noticeable difference.

If I could buy Amsoil for the same price I'd like to go with that. I will try RP first though see how it fairs in a real engine. not a half one LOL.

I may try and swap the whole drive train fluids. On HPTV they did it with a camaro and it added 18HP and 20something FT-LBS and everything ran way cooler.

Yeah I heard about the episode on HPTV, I might have to switch to RP tranny fluid when I get the shift kit & torque converter. I already use it in my differential. I didnt know parts stores gave military discounts! If so I get one too! My bad if your in the Air force, the whole ''chair force'' thing was a joke I have a few buddies in the air force guard. We give each other hell!

I haven't checked the parts stores around here for Amsoil, but I know I haven't noticed it. According to my OLM my oil life is 59%, it seems to be lasting longer than it usually does, maybe me trying not to drive so much is working out

Yeah, if you go on RP's website I think it is, you can watch parts of that episode. Massive gains for a fluid change man.

The local parst store treats us good here man. At least someone does. The military in Canada doesn't have the support like the US has. There's a lot of hippies and tree huggers up here that think Canada shouldn't have a military and that there should be peace and love throughout the world.

Sic Vis pacem parabellum. I know you know what that means.

And as for the Chair force Thing...I'm Navy...and go ahead and joke about that if you want...I sail with all components and we sling around crap all day long at the air force and army. Its pretty much the same here in Canada. Everyone gets made fun of...but the air force gets it worse

What do you do in the forces? I am a Navel weapons Tech, similar to a fire control tech. There's a few Military guys on here hey?

Im Army Reserves, transportation. I have a Buddy in the Navy, hes stationed down at Norfolk VA. He does something along the lines of Fire Fighting or maybe the diesel engines on the ships, Im not sure. He's coming home this weekend Ill ask. He drives 9 hrs here, 9 back atleast once a month when he's off on the weekends There's a few guys from all the branches on here.

Yeah man...you wanna see something cool...the Gas Turbines some of the ships are driven with are awesome. 25000HP+ some are 50K 17000RPM

they're freekin sweeeet.

I make sure the Guns go bang as a Job, but I have to stand watch in the engine room while we are docked once and a while.

Norfolk is like a second home for our east coast ships, almost as bad as San Diego and Pearl Harbor is for us on the west coast.

18hrs of driving to get home for a weekend is crazy. But I wish I could do it, I'm 7000 Miles away from my original home. Or approx 2G plane ticket, that gets expensive for a family of 3. I haven't been home in 3 years now.

Thats some power! Those nuke powered subs put out some serious power too I bet.

Usually when he comes home on the weekends he takes leave for the first few days of the week, so he's actually back from Friday night until mid week, but still a lot of driving. He used to be on the Fire Dept. here at home, so his job has something to with fire fighting. His training wasn't very long tho, my 10 weeks of basic and 7 weeks of AIT was a little shorter than his combined, and we left within the same week.

I'm trying for subs right now, all be it they're diesel-electric but I love subs.

Yeah I was talking to a few guys down in pearl that were firefighters. if its as sweet a job as it is on our ships its awesome....but it can get very boring.

WOW...this topic went way out to left field didn't it....LOL

I'd imagine it would get boring, but what doesnt right. I dont think I could go on a sub, kinda freaky. Even tho with todays technology I'd imagine they are pretty safe.
