2001 Fuel Pump Recalled

I came a cross a web page stating that the fuel pump (module) for 2001 was recalled on 2005.

 

Is there a web page I can verify this on my own (and prhaps find some other recalls on my suburban) or my only option is to go to the dealership and asked them to run my VIN?

 

Does the dealership charges to run a VIN? Are they liable to schedule a repair once they run a VIN or they can ignore the findings?

Did you replace it due to troubles or just as a preventive maintenance?

 

No one knows if is possible to check for recalls on-line... specific for VIN?

70k and it just went out. I stopped to fill up the tank and it wouldn't start.

I was mainly asking for specific search... directly from the VIN.

I had visited that page and there was a recall in 2005 on 2001 suburban fuel pump-module or a kit for it. I was wanting to know if the previous owner has had this done already. I had this truck for only 3 months. Needless to say the pump is on its way out.

ok, heres the deal, 1st, there is no charge to run a viss and check for recalls, just write down the full vin or just the last 8 numbers and it can be run, no mater what gm dealer you take it to, pontiac, gmc, saturn, ect, they all can run it, preferably take it to your make dealer, you dont have to pull it into the service drive, just find a parking place and walk in and find a service writer, they are usually pretty busy so give yourself a little time and be patient, if there is a recall on your vehicle there are several things that can happen, if its a safety recall, they may want to do it while you are there (if they have the part and a tech available and also if you have time) if they run it and see you do have a safety recall and they dont try either to perform it or set up you an appointment, and something happens, they can be held responsible, next thing, if just saying, you find out there is a recall on your fuel pump and you just replaced it, get the reciept and the service advisor should write you up a ticket, attach the reciept and submit it for reimbursement, they usually want the original, it may take awile but you should get your money back, depending on how much you paid and how much it pays the dealer to do it, mind you, the money comes from gm and not the dealer, so give it time, now if the recall is, say a seatbelt, they will have to get the color code off your vehicle and order the part, they dont usually keep alot of things like seatbelts and trim in stock, also, if for instance the recall is on say.... a steering shaft or somthing like that and you have made aftermarket modifications to it, they wont replace it, has to be stock, im just giving you some answers that i think may help you, dont hold me to the letter because different dealers do things in a different way, its just the way i always handled things when i was a service advisor and worked the dealers, ive worked almost every maker and usually they all work about the same, hope this helps and if i can help with anything, let me know, steve

I though that the dealership would try to bug-out from performing recall repairs if they were not directly-asked-for by the customer.

 

I will be stopping by the dealership!
