Little Amp Help

Im sure all yall understand this stuff better than me so here we go. I had a cheapo 4 channel a friend gave me to run my components(infinity refrence? 5.25) and it blew up, so ive just been listening to the rear speakers for awhile(infinity 4x6, not plates) but recently my fosgate 500 2channel went out on me, so now i have no sub(infinity,pretty good one but dont know model) and need to get all of this fixed. I found this BOSS on the net that is GT980, 1200 watt, 5 channel.

RMS 4ohm=80x4+150x1 2ohms=200X4+400X1 4ohmbridged=400X2+400X1

What i need to know is if BOSS is any good anymore, i know they arent top quality, but i think id only need about half this to run what i have, or less

My old BOSS, old,old, BOSS was pretty good, but i know companies go to crap all the time. Im not looking to bump windows out, just get everything going again. Oh yah, id eventually like to put in 2 10's, but that might be a pipe dream. Anyhow i just wanted to get yalls opinion. Oh and im going to keep this truck for ranch truck when dmax comes in, so i dont want to drop a fortune, just get something to get some sound back. Sorry for the novel. Boss is now built by the company that does Lanzar, Pyle, Legacy...blah they all suck.

I will post some great amps that will work for ya a little later.

thanks and yah that was what i was afraid of just trying not to spend a small fortune since im leaving this in the truck when i retire it to ranch, thats the only reason i was considering the junk

So you are needing a 5 channel? Or would you rather move to a 4 channel plus small sub amp?

no im not against running two amps again, i already have everything run for it i just thought it would be alot easier to run it to one amp. ive also been looking at a nice infinity thats 50x4 @ 4ohms, 60x4@2ohms, and 150x1 i think, just wasnt really wanting to spend 300$ this week. i know that you get what you pay for, and not being an audiophile, i just need something to get me jammin again. what amount of amperage would i need for the componets, in your opinion. i could find a mono pretty cheap.

You really like Infinity, don't you?

What amperage do you need? I assume you mean wattage. It is really hard to say without knowing the specs on the speakers you plan on running.

Are your front speakers components with seperate tweeters or are they coaxials? How loud do you listen to things? What kind and size of power cable do you have coming from the battery? The most important spec to look at reference speaker amps is the rated power at 4 ohm. You will be hard pressed to find any speaker sets with an impedance of lower then 4 ohm. Now the subwoofer channel is a whole different story of course.

Nah im not that brand loyal, theyve just been really good to me in the past. i think ive found some nice prices on some mono so i think i might get one of those, and then a 2 or 4 channel later. Am i understanding this wrong, or can you run the front components off a 2 channel with hi pass. thanks for all of your help, and would love to hear your opinions, suggestions of brand, whatever. oh yah and i meant wattage, thinking of what to type while typing always screws me up.

If you set it up right, you can run your components on full range if you are not planning on blasting them too loud or clipping the amp. But most likely you are looking at roughly 75w@4ohm.

As far as sub...most likely you don't need that much power..a few hundred should get you by.

Those should work great. Together you will need ATLEAST a 4 guage power wire.

Yeah it sounds like i am a kicker fan boy...i like their products though..quality stuff. The hyperflex is great because of the insane flexibility. Never a fun time when you have to run some thick cable through a tight space and can't get it to flex enough. Won't have that problem with this stuff.

If you ever plan on upgrading your speakers let me know. I have tons of great low cost super quality brands that you will pretty much never hear of from the big box stores who push their own brands no matter the cost or lies....

Buy something from MOBILEHOMA? hahah im sorry i couldnt resist. thank you so much for your help, you sound very knowledgable. im gonna give it a shot pretty soon, i cant stand not having the tunes anymore. only problem is, might be doin tranny soon, and hopefully a dmax in near future, so i didnt want to really beef up this one right now. $$$$$ thanks again, i appreciate it.
