2006 Silverado Towing

Hello all,

My father recently took a trip from NC to Va with my truck (2006 silverado 1500 ex cab with the 5.3 iron block, G80 and 3.73 gears) He was pulling a 6x12 enclosed trailer with a 2001 fatboy inside and nothing else. Much to his suprise and mine he was only getting 7mpg. This just does not sound right to me and i am thinking there has to be something wrong with my truck. Even when in tow haul mode he also said it would down shift at 75mph with the slightest upgrade. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated as to if this is normal or if i should have my truck looked at. Also the truck only has approx 8k miles. thanks :chevrolet:

Sounds like something is wrong. Are your trailer brakes stuck or something?

something sounds fishy!, i tow a 30ft travel trailer with my 03 2500 6.0L and on a trip last week i got around 9mpg, hoping to see at least 10 but oh well.

I would agree with Ryan, as I am getting 10 to 12 with a 6500 lb 29 ft camper behind my Yuk XL. I tow it in 3rd with the TH engaged all the time. I also have 4.10 gears. Of course, I am not running anywhere near 75 either. :chevrolet:

i have 3:73's and keep it in "D" with the tow haul on unless i get into hills then i'll shift to 3rd or else it hunts for gears to often. Sounds like we have a similar tow setup, is your Yukon xl a half or 3/4 ton?
