New 2007 Silverado 1500 (900 Series) W/ Various Problems

Hi guys, this is my first topic start so bear with me as I describe what is going on with my truck. I recently switched over from Ford because I really liked the new body style plus my uncle works at a GM plant and helped me out with a suppliers discount.

I bought my 2007 Silverado 1500 about a week ago and have noticed a few problems which I'd like to get an opinion on before I take it to the dealership to have them fixed:

When I reach about 70mph and over, I begin to hear a whistling sound which sounds like a coach's whistle with the pea taken out of it. As my speed increases, so does the whistle. I believe it is coming from the outside because when I roll down a window the sound is louder and clearer. Because I do a lot of highway driving, this has become really annoying.My personal opinion is that it may be the Onstar/XM factory antenna they have on top, but I could be wrong!

Once again, when I reach 65-70mph and over, the side mirrors (which are motorized) begin to vibrate back and forth and shake so badly that I can hardly see out of them. I don't believe it is from road vibrations because the truck runs as smooth as silk. From what I can tell, it seems that the mirrors simply feel loose and not held in place (I can move the glass back and forth a little when i gently press on either side of the glass).

Lastly, my A/C is making odd noises when I come to a stop. Everything will be quiet for about 5 seconds then from inside the vents I can here a faint noise which sounds like a fan slowing down. It isn't a grinding sound, or a leaf induced sound, but the almost has a light, mellow whistling sound which isnt constant but sounds broken up (like when you talk into a fan and it makes your voice choppy). I would almost say it sounds like a very faint bird call which sounds broken up like sound passing through a fan. The sound will eventually subside after about 15 seconds while idling and the noise is either non-existant or not noticeable while actually in motion.

I am sorry my descriptions are so strange, its the best way I can describe them!

If you have any suggestions please feel free to reply. I am new to Chevrolet hardware and technology so I am pretty lost. So far I really like this truck, but I would like to think that a new truck would be free of mechanical problems.

PS: here are my specs if they help you in narrowing down possibilities: Chevrolet Silverado 1500 900 series extended cab, 4.8L V8, power side mirrors locks and windows, no climate control and bone stock still.

Once again, when I reach 65-70mph and over, the side mirrors (which are motorized) begin to vibrate back and forth and shake so badly that I can hardly see out of them. I don't believe it is from road vibrations because the truck runs as smooth as silk. From what I can tell, it seems that the mirrors simply feel loose and not held in place (I can move the glass back and forth a little when i gently press on either side of the glass).

Similar problem with the mirrors. Mine only does it on the drivers side though. I had it replaced once already, and the replacement mirror vibrates worse than the orriginal mirror. If you take two fingers on the mirror, and push lightly side to side, you can probably feel the mirror rock and forth. The faster my speed, the worse it gets, especially when it's windy out.

I believe there is too much slop in the mirror gear box. Probably to help eliminate stripping of the gears.

Yes, that is the exact problem I am experiencing. I have noticed it is worse on the driver's side, but the passenger side does it as well. I have done the two finger method you are talking about, and I can feel it rock back and forth easily.

Did you just have to go to the dealership for a replacement? My truck has less than 500 miles on it, and is only about 2 weeks old, so I am a little miffed that stuff like this is even a problem yet.

Yes, went to dealership for replacement. They had to order it in.

I have to say so far for mine there hasn't been any problems as of yet. I guess I shouldn't have said that cause now I just jinxed myself! I checked out my mirrors and they seem to be ok. It may be just cause I only have 2,500 miles on the truck.

I will have an update on all the problems with my truck. I went to the dealership today to order a rear cupholder (the one in the truck BROKE while still on the lot before I left....is that a bad omen?) and I told them when the holder came in I wanted all the other stuff checked.

I'd like to chalk any problems im having up to random chance because mechanically my truck is absolutely sweet. I just hope all this isn't indicative of any future mechanical problems I may have because if so, my next truck will probably be a Ford.

I also had to go back to the dealership to get the mirror replaced, but they were going to order it, then out of nowhere they find a mirror and put it on which takes about an hour. After waiting I was thinking great it's fixed now and then I goto drive off and the "new" mirror glass was warped and everything was strangly shaped in the mirror. I thought there was something wrong with my eyes for a second, but my passenger mirror looked fine. It actually strained my eyes to look at it. I turned right back around and showed it to them. They were like, "I don't see what you're talking about". They brought out another guy that was "picky" and he saw exactly what I was talking about and they would have to order one.

I have the whistling noise also at low speeds or at a stop. I noticed it this morning and ran across this thread. Even if I rev the engine in neutral I can hear it so it seems strange that the TSB shows it's the steering gear. I don't think it has been doing this before today, but I didn't have AC/Heat or Stereo on this morning. I only have about 1500 miles on my truck. I noticed the whistle coming from the mirrors too at highway speeds and I've read several reviews on these trucks mentioning that. I'm guessing it's the aerodynamics of the mirror. I don't know if there is a fix.

My drivers side mirror does the same thing , must be a common problem.

I have had 1990, 1999 and now 2007 GMC pickups and all of them have had mirror vibration at high speeds. Heck, both of my motorcycles have as well.

Now I can say that I haven't done much highway driving with the new truck so I couldn't tell you if the vibration is worse on this one than on the previous trucks I've owned. I'll update you on that. Shouldn't take me longto verify it.

I had noise off my driver side mirror (not off passanger cause I would ride over there and not hear it), lifted my truck and it stopped. I guess picking up the front of the truck changed the wind angle on the mirror.

My back cupholder was broke as well. Fold it down - have to take it apart to shut it again....

Lotta little things on these new trucks that would seem to be simple for a company that has been building vehicles this long - that don't work. New and improved I guess - when the old worked just fine.
