Exhaust Question

Well i am planning on getting a new exhaust. I want dual outlet from the muffler, and am thinking flowmaster. I have found a couple that bolt up to the factory single Cat. OUtlet but i am not sure what size outlet the is. I was told three but am not sure. Any suggestions or other idea's would be great, thanks.

I'm also looking for suggestions on a catback exhaust system. Is it worth buying on a 4.3? Would it make my truck sound like a Honda? Any info you experts can provide is greatly appreciated.

Best thing to do is to have a look underneath and measure the pipe.

However, I'm quite sure the pipe will be 3".

There are a few threads on this forum where people have posted sound clips of their trucks. I'm sure there were a couple of 4.3 and they sounded ok.

How loud do you think it would be if i ran straight out of the cat. converter?

 

On my 99 there is a disconnect between the cats and the muffler, disconnect it there and see how it sounds.

On my 2001 5.3 I had my exhaust guys cut the y pipe after the cats, cause I have dual cats, and ran 2.5 inch pipe back to the rear axle, than down sized to 2 inch over the rear axle, and went back to 2.5 inches out the back. It is a little louder than stock at idle, but not much, and a nice comfortable level while crusing around easy, but gets nice and loud when I get on it. I the boys in blue haven't messed with me about it ever, and I have been running it like that for 3 years, but I am getting ready to redo it cause I am putting full length headers on it, either I am gonna fork out the cash for the Supermaxx set or I am gonna go with the Thorley tri-y, High flow cats, and 2.5 all the way to the rear axle, than down sizing to 2.25 inch over the rear axle and out the back with some nice crome tips. the will make it louder all around, but that is the way I like it.
