Driving 2002 Tahoe till Friday

Some of you may remember posts about my truck getting keyed on the tailgate and driver door. The truck went into the shop this morning and will be ready Friday afternoon.

My insurance is paying for the rental and when I called to set it up yesterday I was told I would be getting a minivan. This morning I was told at Enterprize that they were out of minivans and would I mind taking a Tahoe. "uuhhhh... no I wouldn't mind."  :)

Its a 2002 5.3L with all the bells and whistles, fully loaded. It's a nice truck and all to say the least, but I will be glad to get 02 Blue back on Friday. I found out that there doesn't really seem to be that much difference in the 4.8L I have and the 5.3L. I had been wondering about that. I'm not saying a 4.8L would be ok in the Tahoe because it wouldn't. I'm just saying I'm happy with the 4.8L in my truck. I suppose I will miss the Auto-Trac for sure, but none of the other stuff (power heated seats, ONSTAR, auto climate control etc...etc).

When I Zainoed the truck for the 1st time I found a paint blemish on the top of the cab.  Dealer said it would be a three or four day job, they have to repaint the whole top.  Use the truck for work and it would be a pain to be without it.  They told me they have one truck for loan and to make sure I call a week in advance.  It's still not the same as having your own vehicle.

You are right Mike. The Tahoe is an awesome truck and maybe if it were mine, I probably wouldn't be happy to drive a truck like 02 Blue if the tables were turned. I guess, I just miss "my" truck.

My truck rides like a truck. It is supposed to. It's a truck. The Tahoe is a truck that rides like a car. It is supposed to. It's an SUV. And, with the Auto-Trac, that SUV will go alot more places than my truck will.

I didn't realize how much I work out of my truck until yesterday.  Wife and I planned to take the kid to Disneyland, but my wife wasn't feeling good so I took my daughter.  Had to unload 1/2 the stuff from the back, didn't want all my tools left in the parking lot.  Sometimes I think I should have bought the contractors shell, but they're dang ugly, and I didn't want a utility body either.  Now when I get a chance to get the paint fixed I'll have to unload everything.

Looks like someone in the factory fat fingered the sheet metal before it got painted, looks almost exactly like a fingerprint in the paint, you really have to look at it closely to even notice it.  One of these days.

Couple of week ago, the GMC dealer had a white 2002 Sierra reg cab short wheelbase utility body on the lot. Had the Duramax and allison. 30K.

I thought it was a great truck. I would drive it and I don't even have a use for the utility body. I would rather have that than a Tahoe though. Really! I would just change out the vinyl seats and definately be good to go.

You DID get unlimited miles didnt you???

No charge for the miles. They did request I not drive it out state. I'm sure there is enough to interest me here in Virginia so that's not a problem.

I LOVE my Tahoe.  I wish sometimes that I had gotten the longer Suburban.  Wind reakes (sp?) havoc with me and the steering wheel.  Even though it has great suspension, sometimes rougher terrain, like a frozen field this weekend, bounced me around a bit.  I think the shorter wheel base hurts here.  Tonight though I had to park in a tight parking lot, and I thanked my lucky stars for the Tahoe.  :)
