Bed Swapping

My buddy has this wife that keeps asking me to .........wait wrong forum

My other buddy and I were talking about if it possible to take his 02 with a 6' bed and put a 8' bed on the frame. Is that possible? Are the frames the same? I thought it would be messed up b/c of the wheelbase? what do you guys think?

Hmm, If I had to guess I would say no. But it may work.

I swapped the Fleet side bed on my 1500HD with a buddy of mine who had a step side bed. We both bought white trucks within the same month. He wanted Fleet side, I wanted to be the only one I'd ever seen in person with a crew cab step side bed, everything mounted right up, perfectly like it was made to. I get all kinds of compliments on the trucks look. Fast as hell too. But the 8mpg and the college commute everyday is forcing me to trade it in on a diesel or one of the new 5.3's.

I don't think so either. Because of the longer wheelbase on the long bed. But then again, with the right amount of fabrication anything can be done. But I would not recommend it.

I am happy to hear that you can swap out a Fleet Side to a Step Side. This was my next project for my 04. I just like the step side look a whole lot better.

The LB's frame is longer than the SB truck so this will be a no go unless you add onto the frame. Looking at this a different way, I had a customer come in from overseas a few weeks ago. He showed me pictures of this truck. It started off as a regular cab long bed DuraMax truck. He shortened the frame and put a 6' bed on. GM doesn't make this configuration but he was one now!
