Replacement Tires

Hey,

I need to replace my tires does anybody have any ideas on what the biggest size will fit on my stock rims? I also would like some ideas on type of tires with an agressive tread that don't pick up rocks bad.

Revos are great for traction and smooth. I have had mine for about 25K now and they are getting worn pretty bad. They wear real choppy on the front if they aren't rotated. I never rotated mine and towed heavy with them and still got reasonable mileage out of them. They are the best tires I have had on this truck. I have had stock firestones, 265 firestones(both wore like iron, but no traction, almost scary), 265 ProComp AT's (junk), and now Revos. Not sure what I will try next. Cooper is said to be a great tire for a HD truck. Maybe I'll check them out.

285 Revo's on stock rims. Rotated regularly and they are pretty much done @ 43k. Outside of the tires are real choppy. Probably going with BFG AT's next time.

Technically even a 265/75/16 is too big of a tire for the narrow stock rim. However, that is what I'm running and have had no problems with them. Some owners say that if they run a 285/75/16 they have to do some minor trimming of the plastic on the lower front air dam and sometimes the inner fenderwells.

I'm currently running the REVO's and I like them, but if I were to do it all over again I would switch back to the Michelin LTX M/S. I've run this tire before on my old HD and they were quiet with great traction. My buddy bought the truck off of me and now there are 45K miles on those tires and I think they'll go another 20K before they need replaced.

For my next tire, I am leaning toward the Nitto Terra Grappler, and the Dura Grappler. Depending upon whether I decide to stop pulling heavier loads, will decide what tires I get. The places I normally pull to you have to park on grass, and sometimes in mud, so if I continue I will have to get A/Ts but if the truck becomes a daily driver I will get something a little more comfortable, but I still do want the look of bigger tires.

My recommendation is always the BFG All-terrains, but if you car concerned about picking up rocks, then avoid them because they pick up every rock I drive over.

I've put over 100,000 miles on 2 separate sets of the on 2 different vehicles, an S-10 Balzer and a 99 3500 Chevy reg cab

I was looking very hard at the Nitto tires, but everything I read says they wear out real soon....some guys say they get 22000 miles or less from them towing heavy...

I am looking at the Toyo Open Country...Consumer Reports had great things to say about it...

That's my preference also. I have 50k on my BFG AT's & they should have at least 30-40k more.

They will pick up rocks, but it's hard to beat the look & wear.......

265 Revo's on stock rims here and I love them. They do pick up rocks though.

I just put on Cooper ATR's on my Wife's Z-71 Tahoe today - they seem like really good tires. I can give you a better update on the Coopers in a few weeks.

285 BFG AT's on the stock rims and I didn't have to do any trimming at all. You just need to play with the tire pressure a bit on the 285's on the stock rims, but that's it. I had two sets of BFG's on my old 03 1500 and they wore great - had 45k miles on the sfirst set and still had plenty of tread left - only reason I changed them out for another set was because I did a BL and added 16x8 rims with 305's but those were BFG's as well.

Hey guys,

Speaking of 285 tires, I have a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD Classic, 6.6L LMM Duramax, 3.73, Allison 1000 transmission. It came with stock 245/75/16R's which I replaced with 285/75/16R's last week. I'm no mechanic by any means and know little about trucks, so here's my dumb question.

I've heard rumors that the 285's void factory transmission warranties, and produce greater strain on the engine and transmission due to torque issues. Also, my speedometer is obvioulsy off, and I should probably get it recalibrated. The dealer says he can recalibrate pretty well, but maybe not exactly due to the increased tire size. I think they're used to recalibrating with 265's. I also don't want to open up a can of worms with letting the dealer know I have 285's if it's going to screw with the warranty. Do I need to worry about damaging anything in the truck?

I'm considering the Superchip Flashpaq for the recalibration issues and for general performance. Are these worth the $$$?

Thanks so much for your help!

Most meaty ATs pick up rocks when new but would anyone not recommend installing them to the point that they would screw the paint up? I'm super anal about the appearance about my truck (most of us on here are) but I have mudflaps all around (the aftermarket Chevy ones) and no chips at all underneath. I usually try to oil any parts of the truck that may chip when undercoating. Good enough??
