Removing Speed Sensors On Front Hub?

2004 Ext Cab 1500 4 x 4 , I’m having the issue with the ABS engaging at slow speed stops. I’ve read in other topics that the speed sensors could be corroded and need cleaning to correct the issue.

 

I took my front brakes apart, took the 5mm socket head off, and expected the black thing with the wire coming out the back (this is the speed sensor ….right??) to easily come off, but after prying lightly with a screw driver and then trying to remove it by pulling on it by hand, it would not come off “easily” .

So without doing any further and then damaging something, I figure I better ask.

 

Can these come off to be cleaned from rust and corrosion?

 

Will cleaning these solve the ABS braking problem?

 

Should I try harder to remove it?

There was a recall on that problem, as I had taken my truck in for the same problem. Was ok for about a year........but doinn it again now.

I repaired mine once and had them replaced under recall about 2 years later. The plastic piece(sensor) should come off easily. The problem is a tiny layer of corrosion between the plastic sensor and where it bolts to the brake. Plug the hole where the sensor goes and sand it with very fine emery paper.

i have the same symptom's, i'll check this out. i had the hardest time trying to check this thread.
