Im debating on 2 things right now...buying and installing the Edge Evo with pod on my 07 4.8L or purchasing a new PCM from the dealer and getting a custom tune. For those of you who have the Edge, how much of a difference from stock is it? MPG increase? How do you like the display? Same questions for the Custom crew. The price of the edge is 380.00 minus the 50.00 which would be $330.00 plus shipping, or I can buy a PCM for $225.00 and tuned for another $100. I just think it woud be hassle to change it out when getting the truck serviced? Is there more power to be gainged from a custom tune? especially on my mini V8 (4.8L)? Also how much torque management is removed on each system? Thanks guys. And sorry for all the questions. The last chevy I owned was a 77 K5 Blazer. Im out of the loop.

Jameson,

There are several Edge threads both here and in the Technical/Perf engine Tuning section with alot of info about Edge, both technical and personal experience.

Here are a few:

There are more, and I realize it's alot of reading, but I think you will find all the info on Edge you need buried in these threads.

I have one and am satisfied with it. I have heard ALOT of good and some bad things about mail-order tunes. But I will leave that feedback for someone who has direct experience with them.

Oh, and if the price you quoted above is from Trumotorsports, they did not even charge me shipping.

Good luck,

Jeff

i havent really gained much in the mpg dept. on regular driving but when towing I have picked up 1.5 mpg or so with my edge. I also have the k&N intake but not much mpg increase for both. I went to destin a couple weeks ago and got 18.7 there and back, on the other hand I went to macon about 4 months ago and got 17.8 there and back without my edge, but that isn't a good test since the terrain and insterstate differences. I am not dissattisfied though. I did however pay 449 for my edge and have heard of lower prices and the rebates since and not too much liking that but oh well.

I bought mine through TruMotorSports for #380.00, but that was before the rebate, and I had to pay 6% sales tax being as it's right up the street from me! I'm getting 18.8 mpg on my daily commute with is about 32 mile round trip, in a 50/50 city/hwy mix, so I'm happy, but I have a 2WD too, so it will get a bit better than these gys with the 4X4's. I haven't had it on a long strait high trip (with a Travel Trailer behind t anyway), so I'm not sure how well it will do on the open road. I'm fixing to find out though because I'll be hauling the TT to Atlanta in about 3 weeks, will leave it there in storage, travel to Brunswick for 2 weeks and then make the trip back to Indy. That should give me a good feel for highway mileage both towing close to 7000 lbs and empty! No regrets with the Edge Evo though, and I like the fact I can monitor engine oil temp, engine coolant temp and transmission fluid temp all one one display while towing. I have the last quarter monitoring the percent of fuel left and have it set to alarm at just under a 1/4 tank so I have ample time to find a gas station. It's also super easy to put the truck back to stoch for service, or to switch between extreme, tow or economy when I need or want to. I big advantage over a tuned PCM! Sure, a custom tune might get you a bit more power, maybe a tad better gas mileage, and probably definitely reduce or eliminate TM, but, being as I'm not racing, these tunes fit my needs just fine...

Now when you put it back to stock for services, is there traces of this on your PCM that the Dealer can find?

Nope... The Edge copies all the stock tune files and saves them, then replaces tham with the Edge tunes. When you return it to stock, it overwrites the performance tunes with the stock tune files so everything is as it was from the factory. They do caution to be sure to return it to stock before taking it in for service just in case they have to reflash your PCM/TCM for what ever reason. With a custom tune, if you don't get the second PCM, you could get your custom tune overwriten with a stock tune if the dealership reflashes your PCM. And, as you pointed out in your initial post, it's a PITA to swap the whole PCM everytime you bring the truck to the dealer for service!
