I have a 2007 GMC Sierra Classic reg. cab. I love sound systems and I really like having a sweet setup nothing mediocre or anything. I know i can fit 6X9s in the doors but what im most concerned about is the subs and box. I was leaning toward Kicker L7s two 12"s side by side behind the drivers seat with the box extending out to behind the passenger seat so that it can be ported. I know i can get two 10" Kicker L7s this way but i want twelves. Any help or pics would be greatly appreciated. Also if anybody else has a killer system (KILLER for a reg. cab anyway) let me know what you have in your setup. THANKS!!

Oh and I ride a dirtbike and use my bed so a bandpass through the cab wall is a definite no go....maybe i should do a bandpass and get a trailer for my dirtbike...yeah right i wish!!

Depends on what you are after. You want quality or boom?

If it's quality you want, the hardest hitting clean system I ever heard in a regular cab truck had a single (dual voice coil) 10 in a sealed enclosure and some high end seperates in the front. The sound quality in the small space was incredible and loud. The quality of the driver and amp are far more important to the sound than the size of the driver.

If you are after boom for the sake of impressing the guy next to you at the light, then I don't have your answer. I carry my .357 for those guys.

do they put center consoles in regular cabs? cuz i was gonna say if not... in that huge space right directly under the stereo you could build a custom box and throw a 10" in there.. that would more than suffice for your needs :flag: trust me.. i put a 10" in the back just to have a little extra kick to this stock system... i dont blast it and "bump" like some kids... but i like that theres a little depth to the music now... doesnt sound so hollow.. however when i tuned it.. that think can kick a full 2" which is crazy for a 10" alpine sub... i would see about that if you dont have a console under there... i have mine under my back seat and the quality is unsurpassed.. i have a buddy with 2 12" alpine type r's same thing as mine except for i have 1 and its a 10" he will saddly admit that my sub blows his away ANYDAY... :)

have a good one, any questions feel free to hit me up... i can get some pics/vid of mine if you want :(

yeah like i said i do like to go all out but sound quality is at the top of the list I dont turn up my stereo when im driving I only want a good sound system because after riding we like to stay late into the night and build a bonfire and I think a good powerful sound system would compliment that type of atmosphere. I definitely fine tune my systems as far as quality I only use the best and do things right the first time.

oh and yeah 04Steve i would love to see some pics of your setup i have the split bench seat so i have that space your talking about

I had a silverado 2002 single cab with 2 Alpine Type R 10's ported and they freaking pounded. I had to take the middle seat out tho and moved the passenger seat up a click or two. Here are some pics.

1 JL Audio 300.4 amp and 1 Cadence TXA 1000D amp with a 1.5 Rockfard Fosgate Cap.

Subs in the ported both tuned at 32 Hz (recommended by alpine) the other sub is behind the seat

Well I Finally got my sound system in! I got two Kicker 10" CVR that are downfiring one behinde each seat the amp that is powering them is a Hifonics Brutus 1200W amp. In the doors I removed the 6.5inch speakers and replaced them with 400W Pioneer 6X9's. Powering the 6X9's is a Sony XPLOD 2 Channel 480W amplifier. It sounds really clean but its also really loud. It looks really stock which is what I like most about my system.

Would I be correct in the assumption that when it comes to subs, the bigger you go, the less definition you get? I had a couple 10s while most of my friends had 12s and a couple had one 18, and when it came to brute bump, they would take me any day of the week, but when it came to clarity, there was no competition.

My 15" is clear and it bumps hard...but it's in the right box and is powered well. I Was gonna say u can do what I did last year.....take out the middle seat saw off the top part and use all the space u can make a custom box that wraps around the two chairs and creates a new backrest for the middle chair. But the way I had the sub was pointed at the back window which bowed the heck out of the back wall and caused rattle. Now ive got a blowthrough so the only rattle is my toolbox and tailgate. The back window flexs but doesn't make rattles because the subs are facing the chairs now

Remember, for music, its not really a SUB woofer you are after. Its more of a woofer. Most music, unless you listen to a lot of pipe organ or bag pipes is still in the range of a woofer. Anything that goes down to say 40 cycles will be more than enough to give you that SLAP that you are looking for. For home theater use, than a SUB is a good thing, but you are talking about sound effects not music. Just for comparison, my subs cut off at 40 cycles. With the big systemi n my home I don't even use the subs when playing music. That SLAP you are after happens between 50 and 80 cycles. I have done multiple competition car set ups and finally used a couple of Kicker 10s in my own vehicle. If space is at a premium, you can use a couple of 8s to get what you want. In really simple terms, two 8" subs will give you quuite a bit more cone area than a single 12" and usually be easier to fit in a small place. 50.24sq' compared to 37.68sq' . If you are looking to blow your ear drums out and piss off the cars next to you than bigger is better! After a year of doing that and not having any room in your cab besides, give me a call, my wife is a sign language interpreter, you WILL need her services! LOL

Yeah I know What You mean. I am more than happy with my setup. I am a music enthusiast I like my audio system to sound really crisp and clean FOR MY HEARING PLEASURE not the people next to me. However I am amazed at how brutal this system can be if I turn the bass boost module up it actually forces the air out of your lungs, rattles your eyeballs, and makes your ears feel like they are going to pop. I do not listen to my music like this. I have it turned all the way down so the bass complements the rest of the system it does not overshadow it. It is still a work in progress but I definitely am not after the loudest system. The louder you go the more distorted and horrible it sounds. I am so impressed with the subs though. I mean Kicker CVR? I originally wanted one JL 10" W7 but I was not going to be able to use the middle seat anymore so that was out of the question. Anywho hey AZGOOCH what setup do you have in your truck? if you dont mind me asking.

I have not touched the system in my Silverado YET! My last system was/is an Alpine head unit going to an Audio Contol 4.1 pre-amp to an Audio Contol Epicenter feeding a Soundstream Reference 604 feeding 2 pair of Boston Acoustic Pro Series 6" components and a Reference 500 feeding 2 Kicker Solobaric 10s for the low end. I have had LOTS of different components but these are the last and have seem to be what I have had the least amount of problems with. This was a bullit proof system for me. I also have some Zapco amps that are waiting their turn to go into service. After doing the car stereo thing on a larger than normal scale, for alot of years, I am just tired of spending all my spare time building and rebuilding. All of that was in an extra cab Ford Ranger 4X4. Now it all just sits useless in boxes in my garage!! A new head unit, one 3 or 4 channel amp, the BA component speakers and a couple of 8" subs will find their way into my Silverado and then I am going to leave it alone!! The 4.1 AudioContol will go as well, this one piece above all the rest was a real eye opener, so it will be with me as well. The best advice I can give you is get all of your parts together and THEN do your stereo. Too many problems can arise when doing piece by piece...broken parts(door panels, wire, components) Make a plan...where to put everything and have room to get to it if needed and stick to it. Be realistic! Don't put 15" subs 2 feet from your head!! You WILL go deaf!
