Possible Buy Back On My '07 Classic Z71 Slt

Well, earlier this year I traded my 04 Z71 SLT for an 07 Classic due to the big rebate on the Classic series trucks. I've tried to convince myself it was an optical illusion but the drivers side doors seemed darker than the front fender and the small cab section behind the rear door. The smoking gun was when I noticed the line down low on the lower body contour where the paint repair work was broken off! The difference in color is obvious though the work in general is very good otherwise making me think it is a factory repair. I took it to the dealer last night and they agreed I've been shafted and suggested I talk to the regional service rep for GM. I don't want paint repair, I want the perfect, new truck I paid for. The dealer has prepped me for what he believes will be the reps first offer, paint repair to the drivers side of the cab. He also doesn't think that is a fair or equitable solution. It should help that I've bought 7 NEW cars and trucks from this same dealer since 2000 including 3 new Z71 SLTs. Any suggestions on how to handle this discussion?

See if you can get the entire truck painted at a shop of your choice. That way it will all be the same and won't be on the cheap.

Since the trucks is months old Idon't see why I should have to have it painted since I paid the same as everyone else who got PERFECT trucks. I've also never seen a repaint as good as the original paint. You can always tell a repaint from factory paint. Also, in the pricing guides, EXCELLENT condition means no paint or body work. GOOD condition is where repaired veicles fall. The difference in price is thousands. I don't see why I should be finanacially disadvantaged ?

Is there any evidence of any body work being accomplished on the truck? It might be a good idea to take it to a local collision shop and have them put it on a rack and do a really close check of everything. If there is evidence of body work, I'd say you pretty well have a good case to get a brand new truck! If all is perfect and it was just a flaw in the paint process a re-paint would not be bad. Most, if not all, respectable body shops will give a lifetime warranty on their work, that's better than the 3 years 36K mile warranty you get from the factory!

Someone owes you a new truck IMO. Either the dealer crashed it and pawned it off on to you or the factory did. For the color and body work to be off like you say, sounds more like the delaers bodyshop had a hand in this to me. You are wright painting it would not be an option if it were mine, its never going to be the same as the OEM finish.

if you chose the painter you can get a paint job better than factory, estimate needs to include a entire paint with all handles trim etc removed. or tell them you want a 07 NBS " hard to find" or an 08 and you pay the difference

There is no evidence of any body work other than the paint work. It's odd the doors look untouched and the front fender and the cab have been painted though. It was a dealer trade as I wanted a particualar color and the OBS trucks were beginning to become slim pickings. My dealer had it only hours before I picked it up.

Quite honestly, that should make no difference at all! This is my 1st, GMC Truck, and I'd want to be treated the same! Granted, the dealership will probably fight harder for you, but, good Customer Service is good Customer Service, they should do the right thing regardless of whether you bought 1 car or 100 cars from them!

Having said that, I do hope you're treated well and get a new truck! As far as paying the difference, make sure you're talking apples to apples! I'm sure you got some hefty rebates on the 07Classic, there won't be those same incentives on the 08's, so if you pay the difference make sure they take into account the discounts and incentives you got on your original deal, or you could be looking at paying a couple thousand more than you did for your current truck! It wasn't you're fault the truck was defective, you shouldn't have to take the hit!

Since it was a dealer trade its quite possible that the dealer that had it first might have been where it got painted on. Which might take GM out of the loop and put the fight between the dealer you got it from and the dealer that it shipped to originally. Leagally at least in my state that sort of repair is supose to be disclosed, prior to sale.

I hope this doesn't turn into a three way finger pointing exercise .... my dealer couldn't have done it as they had it only hours before I got it. The work is so good I would think the factory did it.

Can't be that good if you saw it, and it's a different color.
