Need Some Help To Decide

Hey guys i know everyone has probley asked this question or similar to it but i could only find alot of info on the NBS....i have an 04 gmc you will see at the bottom of this post, but what i want to know is could i do a EFI live tune and not have any issues? I still want to drive this thing around town and in Ocean City where all the cars hang out. I have been a huge fan of the Diablo sport but i wonder if it wil work as well as the EFI live since i have a nitrous kit on the truck(sorry should of said that sooner)

I called jesse today at wait4me but cant say i was sold on it. I want to be able to have a regular tune so when im not using nitrous i can just goof off and beat some other trucks but i want to have a good solid tune for when im spraying...just so i dont mess anything up.

Another thing is do i need geek squad everytime i want to race my truck or change something....efi live has a training course or some kind of university to learn how to use the thing.

so i guess do any of you have this efi live thing or what can you tell me to do.

If your pretty technical and computer literate, then you should be ok. If you do get EfiLive or HPtuner,etc you will need a laptop(prefered)and invest in a good wideband O2. As for tuning its all up to you how you want to run it. You can have a tune(file) for N/A applications and another for the giggle gas, and one for getting the best gas mpg. It will take a while to get adjusted and get things where you want it. If you got the cash, making dyno runs will help tremendously.

Ocean city md....sorry but not bad does get kinda crowded. but alot of cool stuff. and some waky trucks from all over....everything from the local rednecks with the stacks to the hot rods that used to be a datsun and now pulls wheeles...lol

IMO it's THE best way to go for tuning. Infact thats not my opinion, it's a fact. For $500+ (whatever the price is) you can tune yourself for the rest of your life for maximum results. Wait4me, Wheatly, Nelson ect all use HP tuners or EFI live. HPtuners/ EFI live blow diablo, hypertech, edge ect. out of the water. Dyno tuners use this software.

Plus you can find a good tune online easy, I'm pretty sure there are forums for both HPtuners and EFI live, so that can help you a lot with learning how to tune. Also, you can pay a tuner a few bucks to send you a tune for your truck, which you can load onto HPtuners or EFI live and mess around with. I beleive Zippy does this for $50. Honestly if I just didnt drop some bucks on that cam and stuff, and had a lap top, I'd be seriously looking into Hptuners or EFI live. I've always heard HPtuners is the way to go from other people and tuners, but that's probably a preference.

Thanks sam...yeah i have access to a laptop the new job gave me and honestly like you sam i was half way onto just doing some good old fashon bolt ons but decided that TM is probley going to get the best of me. I found a cool intake manifold made by fast industries and the bigger tb to go with it. but agin i think i could realy change my truck by having a good tune especily one i can change on my own.

but if you guys think thats the way to go im going to take your advice....uhhh. yeah i guess that means i half to get a wide band o2. Also do these tunes come with everything i need to do it ...is it plug and play or do i need a bunch of other crap.

No prob shaun, I'm here to help

I'm pretty sure they come with everything to run. It's a wise descision to go with this before begining a good amount of mods, so you don't have to pay a dyno everytime, or send your pcm back ect. If I knew I were going to get this 'into' modding when I first got this truck, a tuning software program would have been my first buy, instead of bugging jesse bubb everytime I buy something.

TM can be a good thing for safety, esp on stock 4l60's, and rear ends. But with this stuff you can adjust everything, down to a "T", not to mention complete monitering of absolutely everything.

Get a wideband. Then learn, learn, LEARN!!!!!!!!!!! Use the EFI Forums to your advantage! Using EFI is not as simple as pushing a "Y" on a Hypertech. Its alot more involved than that.

Yup. Just add laptop,wideband, and go.

Not quite that simple.... But close. AutoVE is about the easy. Its the other stuff that gets fun!! On the other hand. Changing commanded AFR, leaning things out.. Changing PE settings, PE delay and a few other little things makes a big difference.

sorry just now getting back at this...but honestly guys it sounds like ......and i dont mean to sound cheap but sounds like cuz im missing the wideband..and the one from inovate is like $400 i looking at like a $1000 tune..(tunner 545,wideband 400 just figures) i now have been thinking about the diablo sport tunner, aparently you can store up to 5 tunes inside of this thing is you go to your local cmr dealer. Wich for me is in westminister, but not bad suggested this might be easyer than getting a whole new computer maping system. I honestly dont want to have to do all kinds of value changing just to goof off with my truck. Tha being said i know to create good horsepower takes patents and expertise. So i understand what is at hand here and EFIlive does seem like the better product but im looking at usability and pocket funds.
