Hi!

I pluggeg a connector into the wrong socket on the radio receiver of my truck (GMC K1500 1988) and a saw some fire :ughdance: well I got the radio open and found a blown resistor.

I'd like to know the resistor's value. Here is a picture:

Hahaha! not that easy ;) I know the color codes by heart, I actually work in electronics... the problem is... the resistor is really blown up... Gone to ashes... And I have no schematics.

Nice :ughdance: ,...Take some alcohol to it with a Q-tip and see if it comes clean enough for it to be read. I am willing to bet that if you cut it out, the underside will be be visible. :ughdance:

Sounds like a fairy tale to me... haha! but it's worth a try, at least... I'll give it a try when I come back home tonight.

Nope! Nothing. The resistor is really blown up. Even the PCB is carbonized a bit :ughdance:

I've got some infos and I could get another receiver for 40$... but hey, a resistor is like 5¢!

Knowing that the module was good for scrap, I decided to try some values...

While trying, I noticed there was a burnt path under the big heatsink. I jump wired it.

I put a 10K pot where the burnt resistor was and I plugged the module back in the truck.

It's aliiiiiIiIIiiIiIveeee!!!! woohoo!

And I tried to move the pot but nothing seems to change. So I'll put a 10k resistor and it'll be good as new ;)

D*mn I HATE those insulation coated dual layered PCB... :idiot:
