Oh I Wonder....

While Im in Iraq my wife will be paying extra on the Silverado so we'll only owe about 12K or so. Hopefully there will only be about 20K miles on it when I return in Jan 09 (15 month deployment). When I get back Im wanting to trade her in for a new Crew Cab LTZ Loaded 4x4 Vmax (i now have an LT 4x4 4.8L). I figure if the dealership gives me $20K for my truck and I owe 12k on it then about 7-8K plus my 6K down payment should get the truck down to about $25K or even less. I think its a great idea. I move up to a loaded truck with the VMAX instead of a nicely equipped truck with 4.8L abd 3.42's. BTW how much did you guys pay for a new fully loaded (nav, sunroof, etc.) Vmax 4x4?

Anyway thats my plan, i cant wait!

I don't know about the truck prices but good luck in Iraq. I spent a year there in '04. The money is nice. I was able to pay things off while I was there, but when I got back let the spending begin. I was located in southern Iraq, my company helped construct the black top on the main supply road from south to north. You'll see it when you get there I'm sure. Hope you like the color brown. lol

If your wife doesn't need your truck, why not just sell it now and save all the interest that you would pay on the loan. Put the payment money in the bank and you will be money ahead.

I agree with this. There's no sense in making payments on something that's constantly depreciating day after day if you aren't using it. Have her sell it private party (better price than trade-in) and bank whatever extra cash there is. Then throw the money at whatever you decide to buy when you come back.

Every day that truck sits there unused is a day it loses value.

Since Im leaving again, we now only have one car. So that will be her main source of transportation until she gets her new car late next year. Im just thinking right now thats all. I just wish I wouldlnt have bought my truck with the small V8 and high gears.

Hope this gives you an idea, you should sell it off private, get the most for it and then use the remaining on the downpayment to the truck, the dealer will *give* you what they want, but then they will tack it back on somewhere else (Higher interest payment, TTL, or sometimes even the PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection)) to recover some of that money.

Ill most likely keep my truck, too much money to lose i guess. Just a thought, never set in stone. thanks guys.

Jameson,

Are you with a private contractor or are you military? If military, did you just sign up or are you simply going on deployment? Army, Marine Corps, what; and what MOS are you?

Im Active Duty Army, been in for since May 04 so about 3.5 years. I deployed fo a year to Afghanistan in March 06 and got back early this year. I leave for Iraq (15 months) in November. Im an E-5, 13B (Field Artillery) at Fort Polk, LA with the 10th moutain division ($th Brigade). We dont get paid exorbitant amounts to go their, I need to be a civilian contractor. LOL
