How do you test to see if the charcoal canister is bad on a 93 Chevy suburban 4X4 5.7 liter???

I have found on a few other models that if you remove the can and turn it upside down and fuel comes out or there is alot of fuel moisture it will be bad. What happens is that if the tank is over filled it will run back down the vent and fill up the canister. Also if your evap valve is stuck open it will cause this canister to fill up.
