Anybody know the difference b/t the 2002 and 2007 engines? I believe the 02 is rated at 275HP and the 07 at 295HP. Wondering if it is programing or a mechanical change to gain the added HP.

275 @ 5200

295 @ 5600

From what I could find....

Probobly a different tune. Hp is a calculation of torque @ a certain RPM, so normally a motor will make more hp @ 5600 rpm than at 5200. Kinda like the discussion on the Escalade motor making more than the denali (I think it was) motor. They probobly made the same power, but the escalade motor was rated by its H.P. at a higher rpm, thus it made more power at the higher rpm. Plus your buying a caddy you expect more. If not might be something else small like a slightly better cam. I know the older motors had clutch fans, and the newer (2005+ I think) have electric fans, so that helps with a little bit of power.

***this is all a total guess, but one or more of the above it the correct answer.***

Someone posted a similar comparison between the 6.2L Sierra and the 6.2L Denali... the difference was the rpms that the HP is measured at.

I was thinking the fan myself. But I thought that when they did HP ratings it was without accessories? Don't know if the fan is an accessory:(
