I got a 06 silverado with a 4.8, what programmer would be the best yet it has to pass an emission test on the inspection...i heard if it say 50 state legal its ok to get. But iam not going to pay 500 bucks and end up not being able to use it. Also how much horsepower would some of these products give me.

If it was a programmer, all you would have to do is return the settings to stock before getting your truck inspected.

 

The flip-side is that programmers are often overpriced and do not net the same performance gains as a custom tune. There are many people who do custom tuning. (Wait4Me, Wester's, Nelson, etc)

 

Depending on what octane you are tuning your truck for the horsepower to vary proportionally. A mean 93 octane tune may net you 27-30 HP, while an economy 87 octane tune would get you less.

 

If I was going to spend $500 on programming I would give Wester's a call and see what they can do. Also remember that many people who do custom programming will send you a new PCM, so all you really have to do is swap back in your stock PCM before bringing it into the dealer/inspection, etc.

I paid 287 for my Diablo. You get to do some custom tuning, but not indepth tuning. You could go with HPTuners and do full on custom tuning.
