As some of you know my oil pump has failed on me and i buaght a rebuilt engine for 500 bucks. i was thinking instead of spending all the time to put the new engine in if it was worth my time putting a new oil pump in and going from there? the engine turns but wont start. many people have told me i probaly have a bad bearing or threw a rod.

Typically (not always) when you throw a rod it destroys some part of the engine and you will see the damage. Also, it most likely the engine will not turn. If you have spun a bearing or have a bad bearing, there are signs. You may have a knocking noise or even a squealing noise if the rod is spinning in the engine.

OK i check the fuel i am getting fuel. comrpession i do not know how. and spark how can i do that? thanks

To check the spark take a spare spark plug and connect one of the plug wires to it. Ground it by holding it against the engine block and have someone crank the engine over. You should see the spark. Don't hold the plug itself or you'll get a healthy jolt of electricity.

To check the compression you would need a compression gauge which you screw into the individual spark plug holes to check one cylinder at a time. They should all be close to the same compression. The actual numbers vary according to which engine you have.
