Is Oil Oil?

Does the factory use any oil additives in the engine oil? Or is factory oil on new truck just ordinary oil? With nothing added?

 

I have heard rumors/stories that the factory uses 'special' additives to new engines.

Only additives I know of is assembly lube. That will get mixed into the oil once its cranked up for the very first time.

Factory uses regular brand oil, could be Pensoil, Valvoline, Qacker State, whatever they have a contract with for that year. No such thing as "GM Motor Oil" when you go to the dealership, it could be any of those.

There is a GM Goodwrench motor oil. I believe Mobil makes it for GM. MS3DALE can shed more light on this.

That might account for the yellow tinge that I've noticed on two new Toyota's and three new GM's when doing the first dump.
