Hey there, I have a JVC camcorder that records on film, and transfers through a DV cable to a firewire 1394 port on a computer. I bought the Firewire PCI for my old desktop, but I am now running a laptop. The laptop ( hp ) has a built in firewire port, but the problem is its a 4 pin and not a 6 pin, and my camcorders DV cable requires the 4 pin. I bought a 4 - 4 pin cable but it turns out that they are both male heads and it cannot transfer ( or be found at all ) on my laptop. Does anybody know of a adapter thing out there that I can connect to the end of my cable and then into the laptop 4 pin port? I went to the local radioshack but they were not a helpful at all... they said it wasn't possible, though those idiots are wrong lol. Thanks for any input.

If I understand you correctly, it sounds like you need a 6-4 cable. Check here: http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepar...amp;cp_id=10301

or if you need something locally try this:

I'd go with the monoprice if it was me. Retail prices for cables are ridiculous.

Hope this helps.

Thanks man. Yeah retail is way too much. I found out I do need a 4 - 6 pin cable ( already have one luckally ) but not having a 6 pin Firewire port on the laptop, I will end up buying a PCMCIA card off ebay for a few bucks and install it and it should work. Why cant things just all be plug & play?
