Suspension Rattle

We have a 2005 Tahoe LT that has developed a bit of rattle in the front suspension/steering. It feels like when I drive over a bump in the road, that the front end is compressing before the shock dampens the force and gives it a rough feeling.

Also, since it started doing this, it has also started with what sounds and feels like something binding in the front end. It's what it feels like when you put it in 4wLo on dry pavement, how is "hops", but it only does this when it's in reverse and turned very sharply, like when I'm backing out of my driveway. It's definitely not in 4wd, but could the hubs (not sure if this has them or not) be locked in and the transfer case not be in 4wd? Does that make sense?

If it needed new shocks, could this cause these problems? It has 90,000 miles and is still the original shocks, so it needs them anyway, but if this is something else, I'd rather fix that first, since it could be a safety issue.

Thanks,

Scott
