Stereo Issue

2007 Silverado NBS Crew cab with Bose stereo system and 6 CD disc changer

I have a very high pitch noise emanating from my stereo area. No noise is coming from the speakers. The noise is constant. It may be my imagination, but it seems like it gets louder at times (I have to turn up the radio). Some say it is a bad bearing in my stereo head unit cooling fan. Is that possible or is there some another explanation? Everything is stock and there have been no modifications to the pickup.

I was at a car stereo business with a friend and they said it may be some sort of device that constantly pulls power from the battery making the noise. They suggested I unhook my battery and wait 20 minutes and re-hook-up the battery. I did with no change in the noise. The stereo does not have to be on for the noise to be there. The pickup does not have to be running for the noise to be there. The noise only quits after the pickup has been turned off for a period of time and reactivates once a door is opened or the stereo knob is pushed in.

I am leery taking it to my local dealer until I can tell them what it most likely is.

I appreciate any thoughts.

Jon
