Help! Instrument Prnd Lights Went Out

Got in my truck this afternoon after work, guess what. The PRND indicator and mileage indicator won't light up. Everything else works fine. Is there a fix for this or what? I already checked the fuse that is in the dash. Should I check any of the fuses under the hood? What else is there?

Now on Saturday, I tried to see if my instrument gauge worked and it did. Tried it this afternoon, and it doesn't. Waited a hour and tried it again and it worked this time. Should I go ahead and get the instrument gauge replaced or have mr goodwrench look at?

If the bulb was burnt out, would keep coming back on and going back out? Also, what is the fix for this, because I would like to do this myself instead of taking it to the gm dealership.

check your fuse, take the dash a part and trace everything - sorry I don't have wiring diagram for your truck.

I have a 1999 Sierra with the same problem. I'm pretty sure this is due to a short some where within the cluster. It is a pretty expensive fix to have the dealer put in a new one so I'm learning to live with this issue. Now I know why GM has message center that indicates when you should change the oil. They must have known that the clusters were a POS. :P

Since I have been checking out prices, I haven't had any problems with the instrument cluster. By the way, a junk yard only wants $100 for a used instrument cluster. A lot cheaper than a dealer.
