Torsion Bar Tools

So reading the posts around on here about messing with the torsion bars, I still can't find a solid answer to what type of tool you need to use. I have a '99 Sonoma 4x4, and I've noticed that on the front control arms the big rubber bumper that keeps you from totally bottoming out, is only about an inch away from the lower control arm....so I figured I need to crank the bolt on the torsion bar in to raise the front end of the truck. But when I went to crank in the bolt, it is locked solid, I can't even budge it, do you really need the torsion bar unloader tool to mess with all this? Someone mentioned raising the front end of the truck, but do you just raise the truck and put jack stands under the frame so the wheels are just hanging, or do you actually raise one wheel with the jack under the lower control arm...some help would be much appreciated....

thanks

You only need a torsion tool if you are going to change out your stock keyways. If you are just going to turn the bolts in, lube them up real good and put jack stands under it so that the front wheels are off the ground and crank away.
