most of those trucks are pretty reliable, I would change the oil (engine, trans, rear diff, transfer case (if equipped)) and have the entire chassis lubricated at a local dealership. I would also inspect the underbody to make sure that there is no damage and take it for a good test drive (20-30 mins) and really listen to the engine and trans work. In addition, if you do purchase, post some pics and let us know if you have any specific questions.

thx man, ill take all the advice/help i can get....reliability is really what im concerned about as ive heard both good and bad from the mileage range its in...but again, its a machine and ive bought enough vehicles to know sometimes it doesnt matter!! im gonna use it as a daily driver more than likely, and cant afford any major repairs, espec within the first year i have it(next 25000 miles)....just had 3rd child and my duallie needs a break from the miles, and i cant stand the wifes minivan!!...so thx again man, and you guys will be the first for the questions if i do buy it....

happy to help, just keep in mind of giving it a through inspection and if possible take it to a mechanic that will give a complete look over.

I agree with above.

Take the vehicle to a good private mechanic that you pay. Cost you maybe one hours labor.

I've had many a used car and truck. I personally never purchase a used vehicle that has had any paint work or body damage and/or ever been in an accident. Others may disagree.

Also, if you live in a cold climate. Get a chance to start the vehicle after vehicle has been sitting overnight - cold. Used cars/trucks sometimes make funny noises when cold and can be a sign of problems up the road.

Also, drive down highway. Check for drift of vibrations.

Buttons dials - make sure all work correctly.

Good Luck!

Thx...with my luck with vehicles i need all i can get!! im gonna go check it out today and drive it for a while...it is unfortunetly about 50 minutes away, and doubt they will let me bring it back here to a mechanic, but if it is borderline in my eyes they will have to to sell it...i mean, its a beautiful looking truck, interior is in good shape, but theyre getting alot of business on it because of the looks with the rims, etc....i could prob easily find a newer model and simply put the rims and exhaust on myself, just trying to do it all at once, which may be a mistake...prob going to trade in an 04 crown vic sport that i just bought 3 months ago, but im not liking it as much as i thought, plus im a truck person and was hoping a car would work...but i paid 11k cash and trying not to lose too much on the trade AND get a lemon...guess thats life with used cars huh??

ya know, just realized in seeing Bostonfavs sig, its a Yukon Denali, not a Sierra...not sure if that changes anything as far as reliability goes, or are the pickups and SUVs that much different?? just hit me cause in the complaints i found, even though they were focused on the Yukons, they seemed to be talking drectly about them, though i would think anything from the cab back should be the same as the truck, no??

if this helps...most anything that applies to a Tahoe/Yukon/Denali/Escalade of that era (sometimes referred to as OBS*Old Body Style) should apply to your Denali...a gussied up Tahoe/Yukon...I just bought a 2000 Cadillac Escalade...the same vehicle as you are looking at...a Tohoe/Yukon dressed up for Prom Night...

My research shows that these are pretty trouble free but need a thorough inspection...GM made these types of vehicles for a LOT of years and by 2000 (just before the design change) they had pretty much worked out any bugs they may have had...I am really enjoying mine.

Good Luck,

Bill
