Corsa Exhaust On '07 Sierra Denali Review/impressions

Well I installed the Corsa Dual Under Bumper Sport exhaust system (part #14516, $829.99 from TByrne Motorsports) yesterday, and overall I'm quite pleased. I'll post some pics when I have the light, but for now I'll give some of my early impressions. The installation was very smooth; by far the easiest exhaust system I've ever done. The instructions were very detailed, even including colored pictures.

The sound on idle is very nice. However, I actually prefer the stock system here a little more. Once the engine settled down to it's idling RPM the stock system sounded so sweet I wanted to make love to it. The Corsa sounds good, but doesn't have that same deep sexy "burble." Under moderate to hard acceleration, this system really shines. The sound is aggressive without being obnoxiously loud, and there's not even a hint of raspiness (I may have just made that word up). At cruising speeds the system once again impresses, as there is no drone/resonance and overall decibel levels seem pretty low. It's just as quiet as the stock system.

In fact, the only aspect of the exhaust I'm not too thrilled with is the look of the tips. I know this is a matter of taste, and in fact many people seem to love them, but I just don't care for them. For one, I think they're a bit too close to the center of the truck. I'd prefer if they exited closer to the sides. Secondly, the clamps are visible from the side of the truck. If you follow the instructions, the only way to mount them is so that the bolt is visible. This seems to be the only oversight in an otherwise well constructed and thought out design. Finally, the four inch exits just seem too big for the back of the truck. I guess the best way to describe them is that rather than compliment the truck, they stick out and grab attention.

What I would like to do is install one of the tips Borla sells; I love their dual intercooled ones. Aside from the possible rift in the space-time continuum that may result from installing Borla tips on a Corsa exhaust, I should be OK correct? The tips are 2.5 inch inlet diameter and should match up with the Corsa pipes. Any advice on this would be appreciated. The bottom line is that it's a great system, and anyone looking for an exhaust should definitely give Corsa a good long look. I know this is kind of long, so thanks for hearing me out!

Wow - I really liked the sound of my stock exhaust, but not THAT much... Your's must've been a REALLY good stocker! ;)

I didn't go with Corsa, so you may have different results.. But, I will say this... and I seem to remember this with the stock setup, too. After you drive it a while, the exhaust note seems to change a little. To me, it seemed like the exhaust "opened up" a little more and "talked to me" (and others) a little more. Maybe that'll happen for you with the Corsa setup.

In fact, the only aspect of the exhaust I'm not too thrilled with is the look of the tips.

When I had my work done, I looked at probably 60 or 70 or more tips, inside. Then, we took about 6 or 8 outside and looked at them with the truck. We played with placement, location, and all of that. More to the center, more to the edge, closer to the bumper, farther from the bumper... size, style, the whole deal. I actually paid a lot more for my tips than I had planned on, but I liked the results. So, it was money well spent.

Maybe you can go to a muffler shop and take a look at what they have. If you don't like their pre-made stuff, have 'em fab something for you. It's your truck, your exhaust, make it the way you want it. No one says it has to look like everyone else's or anyone else's. :ninja:

Very good review! Exhausts are tough sometimes. Alot of personal opinion when it comes to sound and the tips. Years ago I used to like something loud. The furthest away you could hear me the better! Now, I rather have it quiet during normal driving. Don't want to know the exhaust has been changed much. I don't mind it being a little aggressive when it's time to play through.

Oh yeah, we need pics! :ninja:

Pics are def coming. Yea Mark the more I drive around the more I like the sound. You can tell that a lot of time went in to engineering the sound of this system. I'm even starting to warm up to the tips slightly, but I still think I'll buy some different ones. It is Christmas after all :-)

Thanks guys. No, no sounds clips yet. I've narrowed it down to the following two tips, both made by Borla:

Both look good its a toss up.

Hey man, The exhaust looks good. I have a 2011 denali sierra and looking at getting this exhaust. Have you seen any longterm problems with the exhaust. ANd i assume you still like the sound. If you are still visiting this site feedback would be awesome.

Thanks
