I put rims on my 07 silverado and at the time didnt bother getting tire sensors... so now everytime i start my truck up the service tire monitor system light comes on, and its annoying. so my question is, is there anyway to turn the light off, without getting a set of tire sensors, or should i just go get a set of them and solve the problem that way.

the tire sensors use i believe just an fm signal...im not sure if you can disable the system, but im sure the dealer might be able to withe a gm tech 2

ummm... what?

and yeah i took it to my dealer and they said nope no way to get rid of it. now... they are lazy and im sure they just dont want to deal with it, i mean theres always a way to do stuff... after i installed all my audio stuff (after having the battery terminal removed for a little bit, after i connected it all back up, the light never came on for a day... after starting and shutting off the truck several times through the day. guess it just re set everything, and took awhile to catch on again.... i thought i had solved the light problem! lol

just my 2 cents, but i found a bulletin for this.

Condition/Concern:

Some customer's may bring in their vehicle with a "Service Tire Monitor" message on the Drivers Information Center. Aftermarket wheels installed without the sensors will activate the "Service Tire Monitor" warning and will stay on until the sensors are installed. Even if the sensors are installed in aftermarket wheels they may not mount in the correct OEM orientation and still turn on the "Service Tire Monitor" message.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Before starting regular diagnosis, verify that the vehicle is equipped with GM factory or GM accessory wheels and tires. The wheels and tires should be the correct year and size that the vehicle was built with. If the vehicle is modified with aftermarket wheels and tires, do not perform any additional work until the factory wheels and tires are installed and the same concern can be duplicated for what the customer brought the vehicle in for. it's not the dealer being lazy or stupid. i have ran into this problem before with other customers.like i said just my 2 cents.

cant use the facotry ones from the stock wheels cuz now i have low pro tires, the factory ones do not fit.... as far as i know. i know you can get aftermarket ones, but like that post said, they may not even work... interesting.

Factory sensors are used in 22 inch wheels all the time. Low profile tires or not, the sensors should have been installed when you did your tires/wheels.

No GM dealership is going to break the law and take the liability on to disable the TPMS... Even if they could.

The factory sensors sit almost right against the wheel and are around an inch in thickness... Unless your running a 25 series tire the factory sensors should work in after market wheels... I am not 100% sure if aftermarket sensors can be used with a factory gm system but them may have something available...

just curious because this is the first i have heard of it ... it is against the law for them to disable it? ... how? why?

Well... It was a Federally mandated addition to the trucks. Disabling it would be like disabling the airbags in the eyes of the Feds. Individual owners might get away with it legally, but dealerships are not allowed by law to tamper with federally mandated items. Although I have not personally seen any statute regarding this, I am sure it is included,

Im a certified GM tech and no there isnt anyway around this you have to have the original tire sensors installed onto your new wheels and have them set to the factory tire pressures displayed on the inside of your driver side door...also you just cant install them and be done with it you have to have them reset with a tire monitor and idk if aftermarket wheel shops have these tire monitor computers but if i were you i would just take it to the dealer and have them install and reset them.....they shouldnt charge you anything seeing how it take not even 30 seconds to reset them the only thing they would charge you is installing the originals in which is how ever much they pay a tech an hour to do the job and it shouldnt take any longer then an hour to do it.......sorry for the bad news but yeah if you want that light to turn off you have to have the sensors....what i dont understand is why didnt the shop that put your wheels on not put the sensors on or at least warn you this would happen if you didnt install them? they fit like regular sensors there shouldnt be any clearence issues with your new wheels at the dealership i work at i install aftermarket wheels all the time on our custom built trucks we sell here and i have never had a prob with the sensors not fitting....the only reason i could think of is that they probobly didnt have the new sensor stems needed because i wouldnt really suggest reusing the originals only because u could have little air leaks later on .....

    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
