Custom Tune Vs. Hypertech

I do understand that a "custom tune" is just that, and anything in the world can be changed.

I have a 2001 8.1 and I have put in the Hypertech tuning... years ago. Can someone tell me how aggressive this really is.... like does it take care of the Torque management, or abuse controll? Or is it just a slight bump in the timing curve.

Thanks.

It basically does nothing. It wont mess with torque management and my tuner said it makes very small changes. Im in the process of upgrading to a tune right now.

Hypertech is probably one of the least aggressive tuners on the market. I suppose you could also say it's the "safest." Even with their new model, it makes no changes to the tune over the old one, still doesn't touch TM, etc. A good custom tune will always give you better performance results than any off-the-shelf handheld unit. But there is nothing wrong with a Hypertech... just depends on what you're looking for.

Thanks, guys, thats just the info I was looking for.

Going to upgrade to a Westers tune (I think), and was wondering if it would be much difference. Sounds like it will.

Also: I'm sure where in 2001 the 8.1 was brand new, Hypertech didn't do much to change the tune, due to lack of feedback/knowledge.
