Extended Cab Rear Window

I have a 2007 Silverado Classic extended cab and the drivers side rear window latch is nowhere near tight enough and on the highway wind can be heard hissing in through the loosley latched window. I know it is the latch because after pressing down on it while driving it goes away. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I only have a 11,000 miles and 5 months on it, so I expect it to be covered under warranty. Either way it has to be fixed and I was wondering how long it will take to fix at the dealer (ms3Dale). I am hoping I can get it done in a few minutes when I get the oil changed next week. :D

Its not a "few minute" job,The quarter windows on those trucks are urethaned in,The old window and frame has to be cut out and pinch weld primer and new urethane applied so the new window and frame can be installed. The interior trim panel also has to be removed.

I would say an hour-an-half to two hour job.

Just in order to replace the clamp/ latch that holds the window shut. I thought it was just two bolts holding that clamp to the side of the door!

I need the part number 3 replaced in this diagram to fix my problem. The whole window frame has to be removed to fix this? If so that is the most retarted thing I have ever heard of!

it s not the latch, on my silverado SS (04) i had the same problem. I think there was a TSB on it to replace the whole thing to fix the wind noise. Took all day cause glass installer wanted it to dry good before moving. Each dealer has probably done dozens of them.

No, on my truck if I specifically put a little pressure on the latch toward the window it stops, it has just worn down a little to where it doesn't snap when it pushes in leaving it loose enough for a little air to come through. But if I press it tighter toward the window the noise goes away completely.

Someone is selling replacement (redesigned) latches on ebay. They pull the window in .050" further. I think they sell for about $30. Go check it out. I didn't save the link, sorry.

Edit: Found the link...Ebay item number: 260194666523 (in case link does not work)

I guess I must be wrong, but I thought the whole thing was one unit (lock and window and frame) with no replacement of any individual part. My problem was the same as you described and they warrenty d the whole replacement.

I have had the same problem with the wind!! And you are right you push on the latch and the wind goes away. Mine does it on the freeway. Dont bother taking it to the dealer, I took mine in 3 times and each time they put a whole new window in, never did fix it. This better latch seems like the way to go.

I guess I will take it into the dealer, seeing how it is free under warranty. Cerbomark, after yours being replaced it went away completely? The only other thing I fear is that cutting out the old frame assembly and replacing it with another, may lead to a bad seal job providing they don't apply the urethane correctly.

FYI, In my 2000 ext cab, in the first year, I had severe wind noise in both rear door windows and the pass side actually leaked water in car washes. The dealer replaced both under warranty and the driver's side was good forever, but the pass side still had wind noise (no water leaks though). I also had a rear seat rattle, because to replace the driver's side in a 3-door, the entire rear seat had to be taken out and they forgot to re-install a couple of plastic bushings on the mounting rods. I had to do it myself and it was a major PITA.

I suggest spending the $35 and being done with it. The new ones the dealer installs will likely be no better. If they were, people like this guy on ebay would not be making money solving GM's problem for them. It is a crappy latch design, plain and simple.

mine was quiet after the replacement. They had a glass Co. come in to replace the whole unit. Like I said, they told me they couldnt replace the latch only. But I thought what you did that if the latch was tighter it would be ok. It was such a common problem when I was on the silverado ss site every dealer knew exactly what the issue was.
