Had to take my ignition switch out of my 04 sierra 1500 to remove the harness for a remote start. when I put the switch back in the car will not start. when the key is turned the display for the oddometer and the gear as well as the battery light are the only things that come on. no radio or any other displays. any help would be greatly appreciated as until I get this fixed I have no car and school starts next week.

I'm giving this a bump without much help. If someone wants to give it out switch replacement is doc#1897765. In any case the doc isn't very helpful unless you have been through it. It kind of sounds like you might have gotten the switch in the wrong position. This usually works for me, pull the switch out and there are teeth on the top, if you rotate it you can feel the clicks in the different positions (off, accessory, run, then push more and you can feel the spring of the start position. If you go through all these and everything still reacts incorrectly then you have a wiring issue. If you rotate through and all operates normally you installed the switch with the gears in the wrong position. If that is the case I usually turn the key to run and with switch in hand push it to crank and let it return to run on it's own then install switch and cross fingers. It can take a few tries to get them lined up if you are off you may or may not see the problem it can be extreme like you have and nothing works or you think everything works and you have the switch slightly on even when off, this will draw battery down. I hope this helps.

Important: The gears between the ignition switch and the lock cylinder housing must be in the correct position. Failure to do so will cause a misalignment of the gears in the ignition switch and the lock cylinder housing, which may result in a NO START or BATTERY DRAIN.

K if you look at that in the second picture of the document you can see the large space in the gear that should be alligned as in the picture when the key is off.
