Brake Caliper Paint

I recently came across a Brake Caliper Paint Kit from DuPont that makes it easy to paint your brake calipers with 500 degree resistant paint,brake cleaner,etc.

 

ive seen red brake calipers on a black truck like this

 

 

and i like the look...has anyone tried it themselves? should i take my chances with a 25$ kit or get i professionally done for 100$ ?

Personally I am not a red painted caliper fan but I have seen some of the kids on my block use the "do it yourself" kit on their Civics... apparently with good results.

 

PLUS - It makes 'em go faster... like the fart can muffler and the Japanese decals.

I used the kit from duplicolor (I think) on my old truck. It turned out great. You dont need to remove the calipers either. Make sure you sand them down good and clean them well and dont get any paint on the pistons etc. The kit only includes 1 brush so make sure you buy extra brushes at the hobby store....like about 20 extra. The brushes are cheap and they are only good for one coat because it is so thick. They do take several coats and it dries fast.

I did it on my Firebird last summer and it still looks as good as it did. I didn't buy the 20$ duplicolor kit I bought the spray can which I think cost 5-10$. As long as you clean the caliper with brake cleaner and sand it good then it will last. I used a garbage bag over the rotor and set the caliper on it and sprayed in small coats. I'm with Zembonez...i'v never been a red caliper fan. I always go with black....to me it just looks a little cleaner. But to each his own.

I know your original question was basically "does it work?" I talked to my neighbor's son who did his Civic and he said it had been on there for almost a year. From what I saw it looked like it was staying on and was still bright red.
