Factory Remote Start

Do you have to buy the kit from GM to add the factory remote start to my 07' silverado which has the starter prep package? Can you buy the remotes from ebay? Iv heard u cant cause each kit comes with a code to unlock the feature on the truck itself...

I got mine from the local dealer because my buddy works in the parts department and I get everything 5% over cost.

 

I just got my fobs in today and need to get my truck in for them to reprogram it.

Don't buy the key fobs from e-bay. Get them from a dealer or gmpartsdirect.com or other online gm parts dealer. Then set an appointment from local dealer to have your truck programmed. This is what I did, had the program done 3 weeks ago, and the remote start works great.

I figured i should take it to the dealer. I am a real hands on guy but i had a feeling this was more Software then Hardware.

You won't be able to do this yourself, it requires an authorization code from GM, and then a reprogram of the computer to link with the key fobs and trucks computer.

if I remeber correctly I read that you can also use the non remote start key fobs along with the new ones once reprogrammed. Am I correct? I have an appt tomorrow so I want to make sure that they dont mess something up
