Little Help - Lighter Socket Removal

I purchased the Cigarette Lighter package

 

 

 

Contains Lighter, Lighter Housing, and Housing Retainer 12499681 $15.00

However, the instructions say: In order to remove the Power Outlet, I will need a Cigarette Lighter Socket Removal Tool J-42059 which is $45.00 online.

 

Rather than purchase the tool, I figure I'll just take it to the dealer for install, unless any of you have a quick tip on an easy method for the socket removal.

How about one of those needle-nose spreaders? (I forget the name of the tool) I wouldn't mind adding a tool to the toolbox that might possibly be used for some other application in the next decade or two.

theres a special tool shaped like a T that fits into 2 small square holes inside the socket, it pushes out on the locks releasing the socket. maybe ya can homebrew a tool.

 

oops didnt see the pics, ya thats what u need. maybe ask a friendly gm tech to borrow? dont think the pliers wopuld work. u could cut ya a piece of metal to work
