Idler Arms Keep Braking...

i have gone through 2 brand new idler arms this week, and now they said that its because of the lift, which seems kind of odd since the first one lasted about 8 months.

i think the products are JUNK but they said its a "Moog" or something.

where would i get a severe or a better quality idler arm? could i just one on from like a 2500 or a 3500?

thanks.

Riggs, I am not sure what is going on, if you are breaking them, pulling appart etc.

However, I will tell you that MOOG Chassis is the premier chassis line in the industry and is the 1st choice with most all Front End Techs. I have been selling it for almost 30 years and it is premium product.

You may need something different or a specialized piece due to your lift. I really could not help you with that.

yea it likes to shake really rapidly going down pavement.

it is a trailmaster lift

MOOG makes good stuff.

Sounds like you need to install a dropped idler arm. The OEM style isn't designed for what you are doing. 2 broken ones should be a good warning.

i know that, but they have a lifetime warranty, so i just keep getting them replaced.

today they told me to look at getting oner made for offroad and big tires and that they will refund the money or pay for the new one.

I was wrong... the part you need may well is a dropped pitman arm for the steering box. That should solve the idler angle issue. I wasn't thinking when I posted earlier I guess.

Sure hope I'm not on the road anywhere near you when one decides to let go. :D:confused:

Nah...It's not like a COMPLETE loss of control. His brakes still work. :D

they dont let go, they are not "Braking" like cracking in half they just get really really sloppy

ya what he said, dropped pitman arm. done this a hundred times. think bout it all that slop is eating your tires. and who knows one day it may not wear out before it breaks. speaking from expierence, drove from rockingham raceway all the way across the state to the beach with nothing but large nails and wire holding the relay rod to the pitman on a 85 up on 35's. was an interesting trip to say the least

alright, so all i need is a dropped pitman arm? or do i need a dropped idler arm as well?

BUY OEM , I love these after market products that claim such superiority over OEM.. I bet he had a ton of miles on his stock arm before he ever lifted the truck.. Puts on a MOOG and gets a few weeks LMAO ...

I use to sell parts Moog included , Use to run a tranny shop and have driven for 20 years and i can swear with certainty no replacement part ever last as long as oem , funny how no one ever makes this point , ya buy a starter when truck gets to be 5 to 7 yrs old with over a 100K and within 2 or 3 years if ya still have truck ya end up buying another starter. Same goes for every part you will buy after market

Another easy and obvious issue is batteries , OEM 7 years almost every time , replacement 3 or 4 maybe 2 sometimes 5 but never will you see a 7 yr old replacement battery just wont happen.

Funny we get 100K and more from OEM and then think some after market company can best that ? Might have been true in 1960 and into 1980 but in todays world of computer specked parts it just does not hold true .

Spend a few dollars more and BUY GM parts ..

one problem. dont think gm makes a DROPPED pitman arm. he had a stock one but once he lifted it it changed the angle of all the steering components causing the OEM parts to wear at a phenominal rate. moog is high quality stuff, they even use moog parts in nascar.

shouldnt need a dropped idler i think, once u drop the pitman that in turn will lower the relay rod which is connected to the idler
