I'm doing some maintenance on my 03 Silverado and bought a new(green) lower bearing to fix the clunk. How the h-e-double hockey sticks do you get the old one out??

I changed my bearing and I-shaft last week. Of course I had the I-shaft out so there was no interference removing the white bearing. I just took a screw driver and stuck it betweem the bearing and the metal steering sleeve and twisted a bit and it moved real easy. I just pulled on the bearing with my hand and it came right out. was not tight at all.

The green bearing was a real tight fit. I had to do some serious pushing to get it all the way into place.

Be careful it is not that strong. There is a slot cut out in the steering sleeve and a raised place on the bearing so it will only go in one way.

If you are not replacing the I-shaft you may be able to take it loose under the dash and move it down enough to get the bearing out.

Do not turn the steering wheel during all of this.

It only took me about maybe 30 min to do both and I got in no hurry.

My steering has been super tight all this week. No clunks.

Have a good one.

I only had about 10 minutes to fiddle with it because I had to be somewhere. I'll give it a shot this weekend. Thanks!
