Steering Clunking

Recommended Posts

recently i have been experiencing some steering vibrations making a little clunking noise...my buddy told me that gm trucks have had recalls on the steering rods....is this a problem with the steering rods or is it the steering column? it usually only happens when i start turning the wheel which leads me to believe it has to do with the tie rods....let me know what you think

if yours is still within it's warranty period, have your dealer do the intermediate shaft update...if not do it yourself. Do a search on the intermediate steering shaft, there is a ton of info. Those of us that have or have had an 800 series truck have all had it done I think

Not to take anything away from GM's third design of the I shaft because I have had one on my Yuk XL for about a month. My Dealer covered it under warrnty. However, if you are doing this yourself, you may want to consider a Dorman # 425 176 I shaft. This shaft has been redesigned and looks very sturdy compared to the OE shaft. Not sure where you are located but I know we now have them avail through CARQUEST. If you do not have a CQ store in your market, O Reilly also handled Dorman products.
