Looking For New Front Door Speakers

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 with out the Boes system, but it is the 6 speaker system and I'm looking for some good replacement speakers. Have you guys just been replacing the woofer in the door or have you been replacing the woofer and the tweeter? If both have you guys been using a componet system or just bying woofers and tweeters and using the factor connection for each? I assume the factor radio splits the singil up.

Any advice would be great.

You might as well dump the bose system entirely, it will make your life much easier. The bose amps put out 1-2 ohms, and have tons of built in eq dynamics to somewhat help the stock stuff try and sound decent, (it will murder aftermarket speakers) New headunit, 4ch amp, and components. Another amp or a 5ch for a subwoofer if you want one.

for now I'm going to keep the stock head unit and not amp them, but that will change down the road, but for now I just want to replace the speakers with some better ones.

Save the money for down the road, there isn't really anything that you can hook up to the stock bose amp that will sound any better. The sound processing circuitry will basically make them all sound the same. I've been there, done that....big waste of money and time IMHO.

If you are dead set on just upgrading speakers and not the amp, do not spend a ton of money of the speakers. Brand and Quality will not make a difference hooked up to the stock Bose amp.

I have the 6 speaker NON Boes system in my truck, so no factory amp. Does that change things? Will I notice an inprovement in replacing the speakers in the NON Boes system?

He said he doesn't have the Bose [blows] system, which is good.

The tweeters and woofers aren't wired separately from the head unit. The tweeters are just wired parallel to the woofer with an inline capacitor that blocks low frequency sounds.

I could swear it said w/ bose, but anyway......Power is what makes a speaker sound good. A very expensive set of component speakers can sound like absolute crud if not powered properly. I still stand by what I said, so not spend a ton of money on speakers for a stock setup. Almost anything is an upgrade from stock, so it will sound a little better, but not mind blowing.

Any brands, models people have used to replace stock?

I just went through the same thing with my 99 Silverado. Sounds like they have the same system. I

wasn't looking for a major upgrade. I just wanted to replace the original door speakers which were shot.

I had good luck buying speakers from Crutchfield. Their phone help was good also. I bought cheap Alpine speakers that were on sale. I can't recomend them though because I found the hi range too harsh. When you consider the labor involved you might as well go with a better speaker. Isn't hindsight wonderful?

You can go with a full range speaker and just do away with the tweeters. According to the tech I talked to both speakers are fed full range and the tweeter just blocks the low frequency.

Hmm...this is the kind of info I was looking for, so if I did replace both I would need to get blockers for each to block out the hight/low freq.

Thanks that is helpful to know.

I pulled off my door pannel this weekend since it was67 out :chevy: and I must say it was by far the eisest door pannel I have ever taken off a car!

I replaced my 6.5 speakers only in the front doors, i did the 4x6 spearkes in the rear as well, I used the factory mounting tabs, they fit perfect. I did NOT hook up fatory tweeters. The pioneers that I bought were already a 3 way speaker....I would not recommend hooking up the factory tweeters, because if you do wiull will drop the impedance to lower than 2 ohms, which is not good for the factory head unit....

kinda in the same boat here......I changed my factory upgraded Delco HU to a Pioneer unit, and now I pulled off the speaker covers in the front doors.....and seems pop has damaged my tweeters, thinking of changing just the fronts for now.....if I wanted to change to a 3-way single speaker, anything I should know or do?

Not to be an @ss, but can you explain the following?

The bose amps put out 1-2 ohms

I was unaware that any amplifier "put out" a resistance.

I have a feeling that you knew exaclty what I meant. I figured it would have been easier to put that statement into terms everyone can understand as most people do not understand Ohms, watts, resistance, etc....

The non-lux Bose amplifier is specifically designed to work with the stock Bose speakers in the vehicle. The amp and speakers are stable around 1.76 Ohms. If you put a 4 Ohm speaker on an amp that is not stable for 4 ohms problems can, and usually do occur. A 4 ohm load has less resistance than a 2 ohm load, but the Bose amp is the determining factor in this equation, it is just a piece of junk. It freaks out if anything other than the stock bose speakers are attached to the system. The amp is not stable with a 4 ohm load, and likes to melt aftermarket speakers. I only speak from a decade of car audio installation.

SORRY to jack your thread a little.

I usually recommend Polk, Eclipse, Infinity or Pioneer.
