Diesel -ish Noise On Start, Shutoff

It's an '03 Silverado 5.3 Z71 ecsb w/93,000 miles, everything seems to work and drive nicely, but the sound is kind of ominous!

 

It happens for around a quarter second upon starting, and for around a half second upon shutoff...

 

It occasionally idles rough and makes those fun noises as well like most others, but I haven't found anything on the forums about my startup and shutdown noise... I just brought it home from the dealer, and it isn't going back! to that one anyways....

 

Please point me in the right direction!
