I've got a really squeaky window in my new Denali. Goes about half-way up and squeals the rest of the way like nails on a chalkboard. I am assuming there is something in the seal.

 

Any suggestions on what to clean the window channel with? I think it is the gasket that wipes the window at the bottom of the window opening.

Bish, I have the same problem. Both of my front windows do it, going up and down. It sounds terrible. I had it in to the dealership for this problem once and they pretty much told me that there was nothing they could do about it except lubricate something a little bit (I forget what, but I don't think it was the channels). It's gotten worse since then and I'm making another appointment for it next week. There may be a TSB out for this problem, if I remember correctly.

Lube the regulator as in the slides and cable? I'm pretty sure in my case the squeal is coming from the center of the window where the inside or outside weatherstripping contacts the window face as it slides down. I'm afraid of lubing it as I don't want to get the window all greasy every time it goes up or down. Maybe I'll try a little silicone spray and let it dry before operating the window.

 

Drives me INSANE though and we are just now hopefully getting to open window season up here!!!!!!

Don't worry...my 2008 Silverado does it too on passenger side. Kind of crazy this would slip thru on a $44,000 vehicle. I'll take it to the dealer if something else comes up. At least I'm not the only one!

Both of my fronts did it too, but after a month or so, it went away. IT DROVE ME NUTS!!! I'm certain that there is a TSB on it because I printed it and have it in my center console. I was going to show it to the dealer when I take her in for her first oil change, but now it's a moot point. I still have the dreaded oil leak, though... :crackup:

The TSB states to lube the regulator rails. Mine has gotten better on it's own over the last couple of months and I haven't used the window much. When the truck was new it did screech pretty good and I thought it was the weatherstrip on the glass. If we ever get to window open season I'll worry about it more.

I can now state that silicone spray does not improve anything. I tried it last night.

 

I'm still convinced it is coming from the weatherstripping as I can see something on the glass in the area it starts to squeal when raising.

 

Guess I'll try and raise/lower the windows a few dozen times to see if it gets better.

I don't want to hijack your thread Bish, but have you (or Victor, or anyone else) noticed that the sunroof is a bit noisy as well? It seems as though mine makes some noise when going over bumps, and also when cruising along over ~40 MPH. It seems to not be sealing correctly, and I was just wondering if I'm the only one experiencing this.

I've hijacked my share so no worry.

 

Mine actually squeaked a little when going over bumps when I first took delivery. I took a rag and some dielectric grease on the gasket around the roof and that seems to have stopped the squeak. Truth be told, I haven't noticed any noise with it closed. The few times I have had it open, it seems quiet driving. I think the plastic skirt on the sides helps with noise. However, I tend to keep the radio up to compensate for my tired abused ears so I may just not be hearing it. I guess my parents were right when they said I would go deaf if I kept listening to music that loud :crackup: I don't know if the cab on the Sierra is less rigid than the bigger box of the Yukon but I wouldn't think there would be any difference.

 

Also, just so you know, I crack up every time I read your username and look at your avatar as I'm a Red Sox fan having grown up outside of Boston. I have a good friend/neighbor from NY and he is a huge Yankees fan and we have lots of fun with it. I give his kids Red Sox stuff for xmas so they can burn it in a ceremony :crackup:

Haha that's great Bish. I'm so glad that spring training has started; should be a great season!

 

Sounds like the Yanks are a little feisty this year. Mixing it up with the D-Rays today after the "catcher" incident yesterday. Baseball season may be too long but I LOVE spring training. Especially after such a disappointing end to the football season....for a New Englander that is. I'm sure you have a little different perspective...then again you should be a Bills fan.

Where is your oil leaking Victor?

 

Will, to answer your other question first, I don't have noise coming from the sunroof (thankfully) and the squeaking from the two front windows is all gone. All seems normal, so far, except for the oil drip.

 

Apparently, there are a couple of TSB's out on the oil leak thing. I don't know EXACTLY where it's coming from, but it's there. My first oil change is almost here, so I'll have the dealer look over the truck and pinpoint where the problem actually is. Here are three pics of what it looks like under the truck:

Yes, I am a Bills fan :crackup:

 

Anyways, I've yet to notice a leak on my truck but I do smell burnt oil every now and then. I'll have to have the dealer check it out next time I'm in there.

      You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
