03' Envoy Brake Pulsation

Recommended Posts

I have a 2003 Envoy (101k miles) with a moderate brake pulsation. I replaced the pads and rotors with new GM parts, but the condition still exists. I did notice the RH, Inbord CV boot is leaking heavily and am planning to replace this shortly (no noise or creaking yet). My question, could the CV be the problem with the pulsation? I'm thinking no, but would be interested to here comments.

Thanks,

Though that might fix it, this sure seems odd to buy new rotors (which are quite think compared to 10 years ago) and cut them. Might this process be considered normal in the repair shop environment?

Repeat brake pulsation usually comes from rotors that have run-out in them. This run-out is usually from incorrect wheel nut torque, dirt or rust between the rotor and hub surface or a hub with run-out. This run-out on can not exceed .002"(.0015" on GM N-cars). The run-out causes a thickness variation (.001" maximum allowed) in the rotor and this is what you feel as a pulsation. GM dealers have had a detailed TSB and repair kit for many years not that successfully repairs this condition. You can machine rotors over and over but unless you fix the cause of the run-out the problem will return.

Though I still don't understanding why the pulsation was not in the seat, I found the problem to be the REAR ROTORS. Installed new GM rotors and ceramic pads and all is well. Thanks to the group for input.
