Obs Vs Nbs

I couldnt find the discussion although I'm sure it exists...but is the NBS trucks that much better than the lets say 06 models? I've been looking at a new (1200 miles) GMC 06 crew cab 4x4 and also a newer 08 of the same calibre.

They are two completely different looking trucks inside and out, but how much of the guts are different? same engines? same transmissions used? Does the 06 ride much different? tomorrow I plan to test drive the 08 model, but I wanted your incite prior to driving the vehicle.

Anyone out there owned both? Is there enough difference to pay the extra price on a new one?

I have owned a '05 OBS Silverado and currently own a '07 NBS Sierra. Differences between those years, Active fuel management (I love but lots hate it), addition of MAX 6.0L, definate body changes (Some good, some bad like using new parts that are hard to find or harder to change) and Fit and Finish. The NBS definately IMO have much nicer Fit and Finish than the old body style. Much more solid closing doors, less squeeks, better ride, better radio, nicer styling inside. Originally I was unsure how much I would like the new interior as I like a truck to be a truck but damn it looks good from the drivers seat!

Just my $.02

Don't forget that they have an all new frame that is stronger and a different front suspension (old - torsion bars, new - coils). I can not compare with the new with the previous gen trucks, but between my '93 and my '07 that ride is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay smoother and more solid.

NBS are better in almost every way, except a couple. OBS GMT-800s DIC are much more informative, and the bodies are stronger than the NBS. Thats mostly all I have noticed.

What I miss from my '06 OBS:

Cloth fabric that didn't attract lint

Rear A/C vents

Overhead storage bin

"Towelbar" front grab handle

Larger buttons and controls on the dash in general

Better choices for interior colors

What I don't miss:

Slightly harsher ride from the Torsion bars

The whole front seat including those too narrow armrests and integrated belts

Numb steering

Interior on the OBS that looks like an afterthought (especially the dash)

That weird roof rattle when you close the doors too hard on the crew cabs

You will notice big differences between them. Some still like the OBS because they feel more "truck like" which is a valid arguement. I love my NBS.

I loved every minute I had my 2001s, but my 2008 is leaps and bounds better than the old body style. I have no issue with the old ones, don't get me wrong, but the new ones actually look like what I expect a $32,000 truck to look like. It has so many options, features, and conveniences, yet I just have the LT1. My old truck was an LT and it had less than this truck (with exception of leather), cost more in 2001, and was the top of the line then.

The gas mileage is awesome in my new one, as well. I have the same motor/transmission/drive setup as the old one and I get a good 6 mpg better with only 1500 miles on the clock.

The old trucks were good, but don't drive the NBS unless you are ready to commit!

I;m sure the new trucks are better, 7 or 8 yrs more technology, and I've never ridden in one, just looked in the drivers door for minute, but as far as looks(Body styling) The whole sheet metal looks terrible, I'm glad my 2000 LT is still in great shape, because if they don't change body styles, at my age this could be my last one. just my $.02 :D

My 99 Ext Cab had more room then my 07 Ext Cab.

This I do agree with. I don't sit back there, though, so I'm not too worried!

When I was shopping for my 07 NNBS I went to a Toyota dealer who had the frames/engine of the big 3 and then their Tundra all in a line. The Silvy frame is definitely bulked up. The Toyota one looked so thick it's no wonder it's fuel mileage is poor.

IMO I think the ride and handling, all the new gagets and interior quality is so much better on the NBS. However with that being said I think the design of the body on OBS espescially wheel wells and fenders are so much better than NBS. ALso I like that back seats folding up but they should of made cab bigger since you lose room. On OBS back seats fold down giving more room.
