Rubber Fuel Line At Filter

the flare nuts on my fuel filter have had the crap beat out of em, and are badly rusted. i cant even get the right sized flare wrench on them. can i just cut the metal line on both sides of the filter, salvage the flared ends of the line, get new nuts and put them on the new filter, then crawl under and just attach the metal lines with a short piece of rubber line and clamps?

:shakehead: I had the same problem on my '99 C2500 with the 5.7 vortec. That is what I did, and never seemed to have any problems.
