I ordered a seirra 1500 SLT crew cab with the 6.0 litre. My dealer tells me that the build date is April 14th--can this be possible or are ALL of the truck plants closed due to the strike? thx

I doubt it will be built until the strike is finished....they gave me a build week of Mar 15th.....was just told that my truck will not be built until the strike is over.....I am working out another deal now instead.

I think that the reg. and extended cabs are on hold but they where still building crew cabs a few weeks ago. I dont know now because I am laid off. We stamp out most of the door rings for the trucks where I work. Within less than a week after the strike started we stopped the reg and extended door rings and just ran crew cab, the rumor there was that all the extra parts from American assembly plants went to the Mexico plant.

So dealers are actually taking in orders and getting back assigned TPWs? Interesting... my dealer told me he can't even order any GMT-900s right now, that GM's system isn't accepting them. :shakehead:

Just wanted to bring this back up. I ordered a truck the 3rd of april and they called me today to tell me they got a build week date of 4/28. They warned me that the axle strike might push that back but were told "the part shortages should not affect any special orders on the 08my"

Taken from AutoNews.com :

"General Motors is reopening two assembly plants this month with axles supplied from Mexico by American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc., sources have told Automotive News.

The 7-week-old UAW strike at five American Axle plants had shut GM's light-truck plant in Fort Wayne, Ind., until the company this week resumed production there of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. GM also intends to restart production of its full-sized pickups in Oshawa, Ontario, starting the week of Monday, April 21."

So, you should be in luck.

A friend of mine tried to order a regular-cab long-bed this past Monday (April 7th) and they wouldn't accept the order.

Wait for the '09's, 6.2 and 6spd will be available, Ordering guide released today. Chris

Yep, but only in the Crew Cabs and the 6.0 still has higher max towing numbers.

4.10's in ANY config are history. Even with the 4 spds. NHT Max trailering pkg is 6.0 with 3.73's with a 10,600 max towing (Crewcab). Max towing with the 6.2 is 9600 lbs. WTF???

What's this about a strike, I havn't heard anything about it. I live in northiern Alberta Canada and have had a sierra all terrain package ordered since Feb 28 and nobody has told me anything. You would think somebody would have called or somethin'. I was told it would take either 6 to 8 or 8 to 10 weeks to get here and now I'm just pissed.
