siume99 Posted December 25, 2001 Posted December 25, 2001 I'm researching getting my own domain for my webpage. Dreamhost.com is mentioning "2 GB bandwidth/mo., $15/GB over" for their "Crazy Domain Insane" :0 (beginner's package with 30Mb to 60Mb of server space and POP email...etc. Is the bandwidth/mo. how much people download (access) your account? Are there any suggestions on finding domain hosts or on webpage design? Thanks
raventai Posted December 25, 2001 Posted December 25, 2001 yes bandwidth/month is how much the acces your stuff I have a limit of 1 gig/month on my homestead account and sometimes go over just posting pics on forums and my avatar/sig for diggrent forums a full site would use mutch more bandwidth if u have any type of trafic at all, especialy if u have a lot of large pic's worse if u include vid/audio DL's
chevy4x4trucks Posted December 25, 2001 Posted December 25, 2001 I've got geocities web master pro, which is running me about 12 bucks a month. I get 50 megs of space and I'm not sure what the bandwith limit is w/o looking, but I don't even come close to using it up each month. It's really great, you can get more info from http://www.geocities.com I like how easy to use there stuff is. I've never had a problem w/ them.
NewbieZ71 Posted December 25, 2001 Author Posted December 25, 2001 jon - on the plan you have, does geocities put ad banners/pop-ups on your site?
chevy4x4trucks Posted December 26, 2001 Posted December 26, 2001 Hal, nope, no pop ups at all, actually you'd never know I have a geocities site, it doesn't redirect you, it always shows the www.mudcrazy.com web addy so my site is a mystery. I never realized how great it is w/o the banner advertisements. Well worth the money IMO
NewbieZ71 Posted December 27, 2001 Author Posted December 27, 2001 I'm looking for one right now, I checked your site out and of course you are right..the only ad is the geocities link at the bottom of the page..did you put that there or is it a requirement? Also th php site the Mervz uses seems good...I am going to compare the two tonight and see what the differences are. How much did they charge you for the mudcrazy.com registration?
chevy4x4trucks Posted December 27, 2001 Posted December 27, 2001 The link on the bottom I put there before, I'm going to get rid of that. The registration of the site costs 25 bucks I think, but I don't think I had to pay anything for it when I got it. I like it because you get all the benefits of yahoo and geocities.
pacodiablo Posted December 27, 2001 Posted December 27, 2001 i use 50megs.com, they have some good hosting plans
NewbieZ71 Posted December 27, 2001 Author Posted December 27, 2001 Thanks Paco, I was going to use them but evertime I log onto the site there is this strong smell of....well,....potatoes.
pacodiablo Posted December 27, 2001 Posted December 27, 2001 yeah, thats the result of my protest against pop-up banners!
