Turbocharging A 350 In A 73' Gmc

My next project is, I want to turbo my 73' GMC Pickup.

I'm looking at purchasing a pair of GM8 turbos for it. I'm not exactly sure if that's the one I should get but that's why I'm posting here. I'd hate to drop 1k+ into this just to find out it's wrong. Also I can get my hands on two GM8 turbos that are bad for cheap. My main reason for choosing that turbo too.

I have a friend who is helping me with this project as he's the know it guy. But he's never done this type of project and I have about the same experience with this as well.

Any suggestion where to get the headers and piping made for this. My friends is able to fabricate most metal brackets and whatnot. So mounting isn't a big issue. Also any equipment we should purchase prior?

Is the quadra-jet a fair enough carb for this or should I get a different one. It's 750cfm, I'll likely rebuild it while we're doing this project or I can get a different carb.

I don't want to to over do the boost. I'm not certain if it'll be a issue because the pistons are flat top and it already has a fairly high compression. Those are my biggest concerns.

I'll find the paper work for the cam specs today and I'll get fuel pump specs. Any other info I should pull let me know.

The motor specs are below.

350 .03" bore (355) (69-81 block)

rods and main .010"

Flattop pistons

9:1 Compression

Comp Cam 242 Extreme Engery

Rochester quadrajet Carb 4bbl 750cfm

Headers 2 1/4 pipes

TH350 /w shift kit

Torkmaster 2000

3.73 Gears - 12 bolt rear-end

It has about 9,000 miles since the motor was built.

Thanks

Perhaps a supercharger? I'm not partial to turbo. Would that be a viable kit?

Supercharger?

Chevrolet small block supercharger and carburetor kit by Edelbrock 1553 E-Force Supercharger. Designed for 1986 and older Chevrolet small blocks using the "long" water pump. This kit includes a Edelbrock 800 cfm Thunder Series AVS Carburetor specifically tuned to run in a supercharged applications. Also included is an as-cast finished, 4th generation Magnuson MP112 supercharger with Eaton internals for durability, manifold, drive pulleys, belt, installation intructions and all necessary items to install. Preliminary Edelbrock testing netted a peak of 507 horsepower and 500 ft/lbs of torque at 5 psi on a 350 Chevy with 9.5 compression using Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads and the Edelbrock Performer RPM hydraulic roller cam kit. Designed to provide more horsepower per pound of boost than any other system on the market. The internal bypass valve practically eliminates parasitic loss, consuming less than 1/3 of a horsepower at 60 mph. State of the art design provides boost off idle and throughout the rpm range. Picture shows a typical Edelbrock Chevrolet small block supercharger and carburetor kit but is not part number specific.

That's what I think too. After everything is said and done I think it'd be cheaper as well.

The only thing I'm concerned about it the piston since they are flattop. But maybe that isn't a issue with lower boost setups.

Is the TH350 strong enough to handle 400-500HP. I'm not sure what the trunk has now. I'd guess around 300ish. The tranmission was rebuilt in 2002 at the same time motor was rebuilt. Since then it's accumlated about 9,000 miles.

Id get the Edlebrock or a Weiand Blower.

that torkmaster convertor will be the first thing to explode, i went through too much b&m junk before i switched to trans-go and tci stuff, if you really make some power, stay away from b&m trans stuff
