Big Whiskey Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Hello all. Been doing some truck shopping. Looking at 08 ext. cab chevy Z71's. Is the LT2 Bose system worth the extra $500? I plan on eventually adding some more aggressive (probably louder) tires and exhaust. I still want to be able to rock out while I'm crusing down the highway. Should I get the bose or invest in a set of aftermarket speakers? Additional info - 1. I want to keep my rear floorboard wide open (my girlfriend likes to mess around in parking lots ) 2. When it comes to stereo systems, I'm about as good as a deaf mute trying to order food at a drive thru (all of the work would have to be done by someone else) Thanks a lot guys!
WI_Dave Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I would use the $500 for aftermarket stuff. Skip the bose.
Big Whiskey Posted April 17, 2008 Author Posted April 17, 2008 would $500 get me better sound with an aftermarket system including the cost of install? Bose not very good huh? Thanks for the replies!
sam5828 Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I have bose with the nav. it is ok but really not very loud. added a amp and 2 12" subs to the silverado that helped alot
Darkanion Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 would $500 get me better sound with an aftermarket system including the cost of install? Bose not very good huh? I wouldn't say Bose is bad. But, I do think it's over-priced and over-hyped for how great it's supposed to be. I have the Bose system in my Denali and I like it ok. But, it doesn't have near the punch that I think it should have... or even the "punch" that the stock system that my old Acura had. I think you'd get more bang for the buck with an aftermarket setup.
Vmax225 Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 put it this way my stock honda civic system sounds better. Aftermarket speakers arent that expensive to buy/install.

Agreed. The only reason my Bose isn't getting replaced any time soon is because it has the Nav and rear dvd... and replacing all of that can get a bit pricey. Otherwise, just give it a good source like CD audio and it's really not that bad. Listen to something like FM or XM... and yeah, it's gonna suck. But you can't exactly blame all of that on Bose.

Y'know, I've been thinking about signing up for XM... and I had forgotten how lousy I thought it sounded when I was using it on the 3-month trial. Thanks for reminding me! You just saved me some money!
Wingnut Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 BOSE needs to DIAF. They're nothing but marketing. The product itself is substandard and couldn't accurately reproduce good sound if that sound was white noise. They're junk. Home and auto. WAY OVERPRICED too. Whew...I feel better.

You just saved me some money! Anytime! I only have it because they gave me that half off special awhile ago. I just can't turn down a good deal. But, after listening to XM for awhile, and then going back to CD, does make it seem like your stereo just suddenly started sounded awesome for no apparent reason. Then I'm like, "Hey, this Bose stuff isn't so bad after all!" And then I save lots of money by not having to replace the entire stereo system. So it all works out.

Yeah, I've been thinking about getting it w/ the $77 offer that's being discussed in another thread. Then, you reminded me of the sound quality and I'm thinking "why waste $77 on crappy sound quality... go buy a bunch of CD's to rip good-quality MP3s to them instead..!?"

I actually download quite a few MP3's from Amazon and burn 'em to CD's as audio tracks. 256kbps MP3's. Not bad at all.
