Leaking Sunroof

Sorry, posted in the wrong catagory earlier ...................Had a moderately heavy rain last night which caused some leaking. The passenger side post in between the doors is soaked, headliner above the post soaked as well as the seatbelt and floor. Scheduled an appointment at the dealer but I'm curious if there is a TSB on this problem. I'm new to my dealer so I'm not sure of the level of service to expect. I've only used them once so far for service and I was not impressed. That also brings up a question about service, always had good luck with my local Chevy dealer but I was told by the GMC dealer that warranty work must be done through them unless it is considered an emergency away from home....Is that true?

Yep that is right, has to be an emergency away from home and Wholesale Authorization is required (DVM with SM Approval) for Chevy to work on a GMC.

Riggs, are you from Europe or something? :)

Oh, yes, GMC's are superior. Chevy trucks are built from all of the GMC reject parts. You didn't know that?

Wait a minute. I'm not sure if it was a tsb or not, but it is a common problem on the 900's that the sunroof drain hose is not properly connected and this causes the thing to leak when it rains.

Here is the discussion topic about your problem.

Well the GMC dealership seems to be doing a great job. I stopped in unannounced to check on the progress and was pleasantly surprised to see the passenger side interior neatly removed and the carpet being dried with commercial fans. They had a list of all components that were ordered for the repair including sunroof mounting assembly (cracked plastic on the end was the cause of leak) headliner, side curtain airbag assembly, 2 seatbelt assemblies and some other electrical components. They are supplying a nice rental (although not quite a Denali) and have been really responsive. Hope this isn't a trend with the truck but I am pleased with the dealership.

OK...Looking for some opinions on how I should proceed with the dealer concerning my truck repair, or lack of repair. First I think the dealership is doing what they can and GM is dragging it's feet. As it stands right now most of the interior is out including all seats, upper trim and headliner, The track for the sunroof is new and was replaced, although the dealer still had to fix the new part because it also leaked. Now the kicker, since the side curtain airbag got wet GM is requiring that it be replaced, I'm fine with that except the replacement won't be shipped until May 16th. Thats almost 3 weeks !!! GM said they do not stock this item and it is only supplied to dealerships directly from the manufacturer. That's ridiculous, I want someone to grab it off the factory floor and ship it in. GM has "authorized" a rental "upgrade" to any GM car that my local Enterprise rental has.....big deal. I'm meeting with the service manager tomorrow morning to discuss this issue. The dealer left me a message asking what they can do to make me satisfied. Any thoughts on a reasonable expectation I should have. My thought is they should supply me with a comparable truck to my Denali. Again the dealer seems to be trying their best but something has to happen.

Easy, thank them for the time and efforts that they have made (with having all of the proper items repaired/replaced) thus far, ask them about having a month's payment paid for....that is coming up on the time frame in which the truck has been out of your hands (and torn apart at the dealership). As for the airbag, that is in fact, a component that is not readily available as they do not 'mass produce' that part. If another dealership has the part available (Make sure that they have called around to surrounding dealerships for a possible dealer part trade), then get that, if not, you are looking at a waiting game. The Denali line does not have the level of production numbers, so they are more careful with the parts that are just lying around. I would ask for a Denali truck rental and a months payment and maybe, MAYBE, a GMPP Smart Care for 2/24 if this keeps on.....this is what I did for a living in a 'past' life. If I had gotten your case and was looking it over, I would have said, "LTZ or Denali Truck for this guy, GMPP Smart Care 3/36, and 2 months payments - if the timeframe came to that"...

OK, another update that may be of concern to others with a 900 series and sunroof. GM apparently pulled an airbag from the floor or acquired from somewhere else and shipped it to the dealer on Monday. Hopefully I'll get the truck back tomorrow, they were putting the interior back together today.

Anyway the dealer informed me that yesterday they received a TSB that covers one of the problems I was having with my truck. GM had already instructed my dealer to replace the gasket on the glass a week prior to the TSB. The tech I spoke to indicated that GM has been seeing this as a problem. The gasket around the glass is now changed in design to create a tighter fit. Waiting for the gasket is what delayed everything for the last 4 days. The new gasket gives the glass a nice snug fit in the opening unlike the previous gasket which would let the glass pass through the opening. Can someone please see if there is actually a new TSB for his issue and post it.

They may be referring to this one, but it has been out for a little while:

For the gasket??? kinda confused on what the TSB is for...

Yes they said it was for the gasket replacement so I guess the TSB below was what they were referring to.
